Questions & Answers

What is the best way to clone while the computer is turned off? Is drive a the source drive and drive b the destination drive? I pressed the clone button but nothing happened. ?

Hold the Clone button for 3 seconds until the 100% flashes, then release the Clone button and quickly tap the Clone button again to resume the cloning process.

Will this change the size of the partitions when you upgrade to a larger hard drive?

You won't be able to clone it. You select Disk Management from the menu bar - When you click on the hard drive, you'll notice that it has two partitions. One has the data on it, while the other does not. Extend this partition by right-clicking on the data partition and selecting Extend this partition. If you select the maximum size, the free space will be combined to form one volume (partition).

Is it possible to swap drives while the unit is still powered on, or should you turn it off before removing one and replacing it with another?

If you physically remove one of the drives after "safely ejecting" it, the other will briefly disconnect, so don't do it.

Is there a Windows version that can be used?

Used once, worked flawlessly, and will be updated with a guide to hardware cloning
5/5

I've only used this product once so far, and that was to perform an offline clone without a PC connection. Everything went according to plan. If anyone is looking for a comprehensive resource, I've included a step-by-step guide of what I did below. I accept no responsibility for what you do with this information. Please note that I am only referring to machines that are similar (Mac and Mac, Windows and Windows), as well as drives that are already in the same format. You can look for a guide on that by googling "How to format hard drive Mac/Windows," and these articles will often include information about what the different formats mean in practice and when you should use them. br>br>1) I gathered all of my hard drives into one place. I was cloning my 256 GB SSD, which houses all of my important programs and operating system, to a brand new 1 TB SSD for this. 2) Dock both drives. When inserting and removing drives, make sure the power is turned off. Otherwise, your data could be corrupted and lost. When cloning, keep in mind that the original must go into slot A and the new target drive must go into slot B. The arrows will aid in indicating the data transfer flow. The new drive will need to be much larger. You might be able to get away with the same size, but you're taking a chance because not all drives are created equal, even within the same class. br>br>3) Switch on the power. " Make sure the power button is pressed. The power indicator LED should be solid green, with yellow LEDs next to each drive. br>br>4) Press and hold the "clone" button for about 3 seconds. The blue led indicator by “100” should start glowing. Restart the cloning process by pressing the clone button for the second time. If you wait too long after the blue light has gone out, nothing will happen; everything will be exactly as it was before you pressed the clone button. In this case, hold the clone button down briefly and press it again as soon as the blue LED lights up. At this point, the blue LED indicator next to “25%” will flash rapidly to indicate progress. It will begin rapidly flashing the following milestone’s LED after it has completed each of the milestones “25%” “50%” “75%?% When all lights have remained solid for two minutes or have turned off, cloning is complete. br>br>5) Turn off the power to the dock. The new drive is now ready to be installed in the location that you specified. br>br>6) If you're like me and copied a smaller internal drive (though this should work for external drives as well) to a larger one, you'll still need to complete some software steps. br>br>7A) Right-click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of the screen and select Disk Management. You'll be able to see all of the drives that are connected to your computer here. If you have multiple drives, be careful to select the correct one because you risk deleting, formatting, damaging, corrupting, or erasing any other drive if you try to work with them, even if Windows will warn you not to do anything stupid. br>br>The cloned drive will have an amount of unallocated space equal to the difference between the original and target drives (about 750 GBs in my case between a 250 GB and 1TB drive). When you right-click on the currently available space and choose expand, a window will appear explaining what's going on and that the expansion can only be done with simple volumes or unallocated space. If you accept and everything went well, the drive should be back to its original size, with all of your cloned files in the same location. This meant that my operating system was fine, that all of my settings were exactly as they were before the clone, that my programs were still present and usable, and that I had a lot more space on my hard drive. br>br>7B) On a Mac, use the pre-installed applications. To examine your drive, install the "disk utility" application, then select the correct drive and expand it, just like in Windows.

Amazing
5/5

It's what I refer to as my "little hard drive toaster. " This has been a huge help. My desktop died back in 2007. So, to get rid of it while also protecting my personal information, I removed the hard drives and divided the computer into separate trash bags. br>I always kept the hard drives in the hopes of recovering the data on them someday. br>I purchased this and it has allowed me to recover thousands of old photos as well as a few videos. br>This device is fantastic and performed exactly as expected. It's as easy as using a USB thumb drive. br>I strongly advise you to do so.

Read/write rates are consistently low
3/5

I've recently started transferring large backups to bare drives (spinning HDD) for offsite storage using this dock. I immediately noticed that transfers with the WEme were taking far longer than they had been with other docks, so I began to run benchmarks against it. I used a spinning 2 with a speed of 5400 rpm. For all of these tests, I used a 5" hard drive. Transfer rates on the WEme were only 35MB/second on average. I then put it to the test against other docks (Sabrent, WiebeTech) and got averages of around 86MB/second (nearly 2. Consistently 5 times faster). This was true across a large number of tests, all of which used the same HDD and USB 3. 0 ports. Every time, I get a 0 port. br>br>I've only owned/tested one of these WEme docks, so it's possible that this one is of poor quality. Be careful who you buy from.

After a few drive tests revealed that the drive was failing, I ordered this along with a replacement 2
5/5

I was given a computer that was starting to have boot problems. After a few drive tests revealed that the drive was failing, I ordered this along with a replacement 2. I plugged in the old, failing drive in slot one, the new drive straight out of the shipping packaging in slot two, and pressed the clone button when it arrived. There isn't a computer in the middle of anything. There is no software or processes to set up. In what appeared to be a 30-minute time frame, I had a working new hard drive replacement in 45 minutes. I inserted the brand-new, currently-in-use Reinstalled the cloned drive in the PC, turned it on, and there was no longer any boot-up problems. to clean up errors I put the old hard drive aside and returned the computer to its owner within an hour of receiving it in the mail. Thank you for your excellent work!.

TIVO Disk that has been cloned
5/5

29th of December, 2020: I bumped the rating up to five stars from four. The included power supply works fine, and I was able to successfully clone both my PC drive and another TIVO disk. I didn't have to pay $200 for a TIVO repair because of this little box, but I did have to buy a new disk for $74 for a 2 TB disk. So, in the end, my savings covered the cost of the cloning box while also saving me money. There is no need to format the new disk with LINUX because the clone process copies the old Tivo disk, including the protected area that TIVO uses and that a regular backup will miss. It's not quick, but it's worked for me at least four times. br>br>I was able to clone a 2 TB Tivo Premiere disk to another 2 TB disk using this method. It took six hours to complete, but it was well worth the effort. Because the drives were getting quite warm (as one would expect), I used a small desk fan to blow on them. I was able to save each and every one of my recordings. The old drive had problems but was still usable; otherwise, the cloning operation would have failed. I would have given it five stars if I hadn't gotten an email saying - Support for two SATA hard drives at the same time, with the addition of a power adapter. A power adapter was included with the unit, but I'm not sure if it's the right one! On this issue, I am awaiting a response from WEME. I'm aware that when using the device as a docking station with USB 3, the Linux command only sees the A drive and ignores the B drive, but it clones fine in off-line mode. (USB isn't connected) in line mode I'm hoping this is a problem with the power adapter because I'd like to use it as a docking station to format and copy a TIVO drive.
