Questions & Answers

Could someone please tell me how big these computer speakers are in "inches"? Are they up to the BOSE Companion 2 Series II speakers in terms of sound quality?

The Edifiers sound good and with a 4 inch bass and tweeter with a port will be larger maybe 10 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and 6 deep (I'm guessing). The Bose also sound very good if you're like me and can't afford anything more than $100. Bose speakers sound great, take up less space, and rely more on electronics to produce their sound. They're also smaller if space is an issue. Both sound great for the price. I want to save $30 so I'm going with the Edifier and the Bose will be returned, but I'd be happy with either. Check out the Edifier's $99 self-powered speakers.

Is it possible to use these with an Audio Technica record player?

It's perfect for my AT-based AT-based AT-based AT-based AT LP60

Does it work with a laptop because it says "computer speaker"? Does this imply that one of the two speakers is capable of interacting with a computer? it's perplexing ?

Yes, you can use a laptop with this system, Robert. In fact, any source with an RCA or AUX connection will work with these speakers. It's a powered speaker system with an amplifier built in. The main speaker is chosen from among the speakers. For power and audio, the other speaker is linked to the main speaker.

What is the length of the red and black wires that run between the speakers?

6' to 8'. Regular speaker wire with tinned ends is what it is. If you need a longer distance, you can easily replace or extend it.

How can anyone listen to music on one of these devices? I'm not sure how anyone who enjoys music could give these speakers anything higher than a single star
3/5

My issues are as follows: 1) You can play with the bass all you want, but it won't change the fact that the mid-range is the most important part of the song. Frequencies in the range which transport sounds such as human vocals, guitar, and the majority of piano and string instruments - are audible only to a limited extent. And the frequencies that do come through are jumbled up and difficult to distinguish. An old $15 iPod dock gives me more clarity, which is pretty pitiful. br>2) The speaker's controls are conveniently located on the back of the device. To adjust the settings, you must physically pick up the speaker and turn it around (which is difficult due to the multiple cables attached to it). br>3) The speakers were accompanied by a foul odor that quickly filled my entire apartment. br>4) If I don't twist the RCA cable that came with my speakers just right, it makes a static sound when connected to devices. I'm a professional musician, and I've been buying computer speakers primarily for music for the past 20 years. br>br>I'm a professional musician, and I've been buying computer speakers primarily for music for the past 20 years. It's one of the few products that seems to deteriorate over time, and these speakers are an egregious example of that trend.

Workable amplified speakers, but lower listening levels may necessitate external volume control
4/5

These are probably the only set of'self-powered' amplified bookshelf speakers I've tried in a long time that didn't sound flaky on the 'off' channel right out of the box. So far, both speakers have been functional, with the passive side (the one without the built-in amplifier) performing admirably. I really hope they don't get flaky like that. br>br>The sound quality is excellent, and the reproduction is accurate. The highs are fairly crisp, the bass appears to be tight, and the midrange appears to be clean. The sound quality appears to be adequate, and they can be turned up loud if desired. It isn't a very high-quality product. The sound quality is good, despite being a high-end set of precision monitors. It has one of those insanely popular knobs that allows you to adjust the bass separately. br>br> On almost everything else I've tried, turning these knobs up makes the bass sound muddy; This one appears to be a real bass control, allowing you to trim or enhance bass while still keeping it reasonably clear, though it has a much smaller effect than those mudslide knobs. It's one of the few that I find comfortable set to the middle (there's a handy detent there). Unlike some other amplified speakers I've tried, they can't be used without the amplifier turned off (the onboard amplifier isn't bypassed when the power switch is turned off). This is a minor flaw, but it is understandable (especially at this price point). br>br>Ground balance is a sensitive subject for them. If they're not plugged into the same outlet as whatever they're using as a source, you'll get a lot of AC line hum. This is something I've noticed a lot in amplified speakers, but these seem to be more sensitive than others I've tried. Maybe it's because there isn't a clear connection to the ground? Is it possible that the wiring in my house is outdated? Unfortunately, the lower maybe 25% of the volume knob is useless

Unfortunately, the lower maybe 25% of the volume knob is useless of the volume knob is useless of the volume knob is Anything below 25% and they simply go silent regardless of the input level they simply go silent regardless of the input level they simply go silent regardless of the This means I'll have to use a very low signal amplitude to get them to be quiet rather than silent. Because they pick up noise from the PC, this isn't easy (turning down the volume on the PC to below 2010% allows the speakers to amplify as much noise as signal). Using an external volume control (inline variable resistor, basically, on each channel), I can drive them at 50% from the PC side and set the onboard volume to 30% (so they don% The volume control appears to be fairly good outside of the lower range. br>br>With the exception of the lower end of the volume control being useless, I can overlook the flaws. This constraint necessitated the addition of an inline volume control (to allow me to drive hard enough from the PC end to avoid audibly coupling processing noise while still having a quiet enough output to be used as background music while working). For this, they are docked a star.

You got a lot of bang for your buck

Hello there, I'm happy with these speakers in general. I was going to give it three stars because of the frequency response, but as a professional musician, I couldn't. According to the specifications, the lowest frequency is 70 Hz, and the difference can be heard with a higher-frequency speaker. end-of-the-line speaker capable of reaching inaudible frequencies Nonetheless, I was drawn to this product because of the fact that the cabinets are made of wood (a far superior material to any plastic or synthetic material in my opinion), the size, and the fact that they are a two-piece set. the two-way system, and the output power of 24 watts All of this for only 69 dollars (12W per channel). If you don't have the money or aren't picky enough to get a higher-end model, this is a great deal. For over two or three hundred dollars, you can get a high-end desktop speaker. The high tone control (in addition to the volume and bass) has been added to the later and bluetooth models, and the control panel has been moved to the right of the speaker, making it more accessible. The only feature that would have been nice at this price point is a front-facing headphone jack. When the boss is in the office, it is common for office workers to require it for privacy. Alternatively, if you don't want to bother your coworkers. workers who are affected by your sound ) I also have a pair of Sony SRS-BT headphones. The X55 speakers are designed for use on a desktop. I must say that while the Edifiers may not achieve the same sound quality as the Sony across the board, the Sony does not respond well to full orchestral or classical guitar music with a lot of mid-frequency volume and tone. The Edifier are good all-around speakers that will suffice if you have good hearing but are willing to put up with a little extra fuss. They keep the tone very well, and I haven't heard any distortion so far, even at higher volumes or with full orchestral music. "Proudly made in China" is a line that I particularly enjoy. I'd much rather hear that than get a knock. based on the name of a well-known brand that hides its origin These speakers demonstrated to me that China and the United States are not mutually exclusive. Made-to-order audio products are improving all the time and can be quite enjoyable to listen to. It is a good purchase that comes highly recommended.
