Synology 12bay NAS RackStation RS3618xs (Diskless), RS3618xs

I was running out of hard drive space, so instead of just buying more, I decided to upgrade my entire system. For the win, I switched from a Synology 4 bay NAS DiskStation DS918 to this RackStation RS1619xs. Keep in mind that this NAS is 19" deep and wide, so if you only have a small rack, you may want to reconsider purchasing it. Another factor that may cause you to pause is the lack of support for SHR. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's move on to the next step. What are the benefits of upgrading to this NAS? There are a lot of NAS options out there, but the Synology software makes picking the right one for my storage needs a breeze. It's difficult to beat the user-friendly interface and all-inclusive package. The hardware itself is powered by an Intel Xeon D processor. 1527 Quadrangle- core. If you need a 10GbE/25GbE NIC, you can do so. Save your money and buy more RAM instead if you don't have a switch that supports 10GbE. This 4 drive model has a 2 Raid configuration, which I like because of the processing power and memory capacity. But why isn't SHR and SHR-related research being supported? I ended up with RADI 6, but I'm perplexed as to why there isn't a SHR, which is one of the reasons I like Synology. I also have a DS1019 and three DS918 models, all of which are equipped with SHR and SHR-. Why not on this high-end unit with two support options?.

I attempted to contact Synology tech support about a problem with adding additional drives. That was weeks ago, and I have yet to receive a response that I can locate. It was done via their online support, and it turned out to be a problem with the size of the drive I was adding. You can't make it any smaller than it is now. The only real issue I'm having right now is that the unit is too long to fit in my rack. It appears that I will have to make a mount for it. It will work with as large and expensive racks as possible. It might end up on my shelf until I can muster the courage to replace my current rack setup. The best thing about this unit was how easy it was to upgrade from a small desktop Synology NAS. Synology has a lot of interesting articles to read on their website. I appreciate the resources they provide for me to use in order to stay on track. They were very accommodating when it came to replacing my old unit while it was still under warranty. br>br>Overall, this purchase has exceeded my expectations. It gives me comfort to know that if my hard drive fails, my data will not vanish without a trace, as I have previously lost years of photos due to my carelessness.

The backup of 20 end-user PCs is the most common application. My Western Digital (WD) unit died, and I needed something quickly, so I ordered five WD Red Pro 6TB NAS Internal Hard Drives and had them shipped out the same day. 7200 RPM Class (one is a spare, and trust me, you'll want to have one on hand); I was up and running in minutes and fully functional in a few hours. br>br>Easy to install, intuitive interface with good online help when needed. Using the included Active Backup for Business application, which uses data deduplication to save a significant amount of disk space. This is a fantastic feature to have. I'm not sure why the description doesn't mention it. br>br>I've decided to go with Synology!.
