Hello K. The system is based on the DS218 (rather than the j), according to Dettmann. While ioSafe has not tested with a specific SSD, it will work with one. As Markus mentions, the Synology site is a great place to go for reviews.

I bought the ioSafe so that I could store important digital documents and photos on a relatively secure device. For the past two months, NAS has been running (at home). I couldn't be happier as a newcomer to NAS. The case appears to have been well-crafted. My only wish is for a USB 3. 0 port on the case's front. The best results were achieved with Western Digital reds.
I've used ioSafe and Synology products at work for years and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. As a result, getting this NAS to protect my priceless photographs and personal items was a no-brainer.
We have a lot of video projects scattered across multiple hard drives, all of which are connected to one central location. We're moving them to a central location that will be accessible from all of our devices. This is an excellent networked storage device with a pleasant Synology user interface.
