It is possible for you to Two folders were set up, one for me, and one for my wife. For both of us, I set up a different login ID and a different password. When we both log in, all of the folders in MyCloud are available. In addition to seeing both my wife and my folders, I can see hers as well. It's not clear to me how to limit user access to only his or her folder, but since it's not a big deal, I just let it be- This is like both of us are able to access the same remote PC with our unique IDs and passwords, and we are both able to view all files and folders on
The drive has already been set up with 8 TB in it.
That is absolutely not true!
Selected User Reviews For WD 4TB My Cloud Home Personal Cloud - WDBVXC0040HWT-NESN
NAS devices cannot be managed locally, so they are not NAS devices. Consequently, I returned the device because it could not be assigned a static IP address, netmask, DNS, etc. The user reviews made me wish that I had read them before purchasing the drive, but I have owned several WD NAS drives before and never imagined that WD would go in a different direction with these drives.
The reason I bought this drive was to use it exclusively with Plex. I had assumed that my cloud home was an upgrade to my cloud, but The WD website advertises that Plex can be used, and no doubt it can, but it is terribly unreliable. Using plex server means you lose over half of the Plex membership features, loading times are super slow, and if you buy the 8 TB version for some reason you lose 1 TB of space for plex's software or whatever it
Place 1TB of data on one hard drive? Indeed, I am still puzzled over why any drive gets a one-terabyte space requirement. The return period had expired by the time I got Plex set up and loaded my 5TB of videos. I would have returned it, but it had already been 3 weeks when I would have been able to return the product. In fact, I should have bought another one after getting my WD cloud because it is much better and faster. The experience is very disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone choosing it for Plex or looking for speed or even those who don't want to lose their 1TB of storage.
My Cloud Home is one of the worst products. There is no way to download folders to a phone from My Cloud Home. Earlier today, I talked to several people on the phone for two hours with customer support. The feature is actually disabled on the home version, I was finally informed. It is only possible to download individual files, so if you want a backup of your music collection, for example, you would have to download every song individually. It is impossible to organize your music collection that way if you have a lot of it. Customers are being misled by Western Digital.
It is a terrible design, as you can only manage it when connected to the internet, and cannot manage it locally. Even though they removed the useful interface, the product continues to respond on port 80 and 443 . It is impossible to turn off remote management (since it is the only method of managing your network). Bye-bye, you most certainly do not need another internet-connected device that you may be unable to secure.
DO NOT buy After giving it a shot, but oooooohhh my good I regret every Fri day, don't expect it to work like a regular NAS, you have to download their horrible app, and the system updates automatically without any control at all. It takes a long time for the disk to spin up! Whatever claims they make, what matters is what you do. You will have nice pictures of THOUSANDS of electronic diagrams (in my case) after uploading ANYTHING to it and it will index it for you and it will take forever to do so. Returning the item was not possible because the "window closed. " Save your money for more useful items, perhaps Halloween socks, you will be happier with your choice. My network includes eight NAS devices, from raspberry pis and pogoplugs to Lacie and WD Reds. All of them are faster than this disk, even a very cheap raspberry pi is 10 times faster AND you have control over how it acts. For those who have no idea how to turn on a PC, this product is for them. I'm throwing a brick and need a brick to do it!.
I use this device for my home. As a photographer, I want to be able to store a backup of my raw files, access them as needed on my laptop or via the app, and share them with others. Share images with customers so that they can collaborate. I am not a NAS, as IT Techy people might think. There is a difference between NAS and other networks Basically, it is a device that is hardwired into a Cloud SAN is what this device is advertised to be. This is a local backup app with cloud sharing and mobile applications for laptops and phones, so it is not meant to replace When you are looking for a NAS, you should spend the extra $200 to $300 for a device and do the NAS configuration and coding yourself. Make sure you don't opt for a cheap NAS and then complain that it doesn't do everything a NAS does.
Unlike any other Network Attached Storage device you have ever seen, this is really cool. It is not the same thing as a standard NAS device there are some key issues with these devices that WD clearly designed into them. It is necessary to connect the device to the Internet for it Perhaps that is a reasonable idea However, it cannot be used locally if you don't have access to the internet. That's why it's a cloud-based device. I get that. Nevertheless, it would have been very simple to either include an IP address interface for advanced users, or simply to show an option to turn off Internet Access whenever the user is connected locally. In neither case do you get a choice Due to their reputation for hacking, these types of devices are particularly vulnerable. It would have been better to include an option to turn off internet access if desired. Using the example below If you want to watch movies, family photos, this is what you will need Today you are using a device that is at risk and tomorrow we publish a security fix for that vulnerability In this case, you are left with no other choice than to turn it That does not make any sense to me when they do give you the option like on other devices they.
Avoid this unit at all costs. It won't be what you were expecting a network drive to be.
