Questions & Answers

Do you think this will work with an 18 TB drive?

While the SATDUP11 has only been officially tested up to 4TB, it is also capable of working with larger capacity drives including The writer is Brandon from Visit our support page

What if I wanted to copy a 6tb hard drive to a 18tb hard drive?

My copying of a smaller drive to a larger one went smoothly There was no need to format the largest partition, it just grew from 1TB to 2TB. Despite the fact that 2 TB of DVR drive copies take about five minutes. I worked for five

Do you have a model that allows multiple images to be stored on the source ?

I am not sure what you mean by that. Unless the destination drive is large enough to hold it, the file being copied from the source drive will be copied sector by sector to the destination drive.

This is not a good method for wiping large volumes of drives
3/5

It does not exist. A performance that is inconsistent. I have been thoroughly testing this unit since I received it 3 days ago. It will be used to wipe several hundred SATA and SAS drives for me. It would also work with SAS drives (server drives) in addition to regular hard drives. I bought a $1k version of it. Immediately after I opened this box, I found the following problems I. A. 1. Only a small amount of documentation is available. Unlike the downloadable manual that is included with this $1000 unit, this manual is just 1 page, double-sided, and doesn't explain what the different wipe modes do. Here are some examples. An "Erase Full" is exactly as it sounds it erases everything. Is there such a thing as a "secure erase"? How does the USB plug work, can I use it to wipe USB drives? What else could it be used for? Other than the documentation I found on the internet, there is no official documentation for this product. 2.

In all. It is inconsistent in its speed. To test new 2TB WD drives, I have brand new ones lying around. Performing a full erase on one drive takes me three times as long as it takes on another. This unit offers the capability to wipe two drives at once, so in theory it should accomplish the same results with two identical disks plugged into the two ports. It takes about twice as long to wipe 2 drives when you plug in 2 drives. I now have to wipe 2x 2TB WD drives for six hours. Moreover, I've tested it with other drives as well, and I can get a response time of around 5 seconds Average time spent on each task is 7 hours. I'll keep it short. Plugging in two drives at the same time allows you to wipe both at the same time. As far as I can tell, multithreading isn't built in. It takes you twice as long to wipe data. *1. *2. *3. You wipe one drive before the other, but it finishes before the other (i. e. There will be two drives, one of which is 2TB and one of which is 1TB, so you cannot start a new wipe until ALL I find this very frustrating, since you should be able to remove the finished drive, hook up a new one, and start a new wipe. However, you are not able to do this. After all drives have been wiped, add a new one only after they have all finished. No matter if the drive is a 15K SAS drive or a 7200 RPM SATA drive, it seems to work the same. As far as wiping is concerned, the speeds are pretty much the same. **BARGAINING******, B-NR******, B-NR*****5 It is useless to provide progress indications. When you play DOD 3 you will be given a 10% wipe. A 20% credit. Approximately 50 percent. etc. , it will first drop to 0%, then go back to 100%. The pre-computed progression is probably not clear because it's being wiped three times, but there is no indication of REAL progress. The only way you can know how far along it really is is to watch it for 15 hours straight because there is no indication of which pass it is on and how far it is from the end. This is 6. I also tested the speed of what I was doing (this isn't a review, I just wanted to let anyone who was curious how long it took to wipe a drive know). There is no explanation of what exactly it is in "Full Erase". The time it takes is around 3 minutes. To wipe a 2TB disk, you will need about 8 hours. It will take about 6 hours to wipe two disks with the "DOD3" erase mode, while 16 hours for the same disks with the "DOD 5" erase mode. For the two disks to be erased using the "Secure Erase" mode, it takes about eight hours. This is 7. When the unit has been running for about 48 hours straight, there is a flicker on the LCD and the unit has to be restarted. In spite of reboots, the LCD randomly flickers and the characters on it are weird. As a whole. The product works, but I thought I would get more value for $1k. In terms of the GUI and the documentation, it appears there has been no effort. I have no doubt it will wipe, but since it is unclear what exactly it is doing behind the scenes regarding the various wiping modes, I am not confident in trusting it to do so.

This is a Good News / Bad News product
3/5

Do not get the impression that I am bashing this product. However, I have found it to be limited in my use for being well made and easy to use. As I am not an electrical engineer, I did not attempt a diagnosis of the problem. I did not contact the tech support either since this is a self-contained sealed system so there is little to * * *Background This product was purchased to create an image copy of my NAS backup drive so I can keep it off-site. A backup disk must be ready by evening for the evening NAS backup process if the time required for the image copy is less than 24 hours. Seagate SATA Ironwolf 8TB drives are both used as the source and target There are currently 1 files on the source drive. A total of 995TB of data is available. The description stated a transfer rate of 6GB/minute. This is what I expected. It was completely different from what I expected. As soon as I started the image copy of the drive, the initial transfer rate was about as I had anticipated. I estimated that the image copy would take a total of seven hours to run after running for an hour. The whole process will take about 5 hours. I expected this to be quicker, but it was within my expectations. Upon checking again after eight hours, I found that the copy had not been completed. Recalculating the expected completion time revealed that it was a much longer than expected time for the whole process. Accordingly, that estimate also turned out not to be The total time to copy just 2 TB of data was 42 hours and 49 minutes. In other words, 2 TB represents only 25% of the approximate capacity of 8 TB (just to be clear, round numbers are used). The time I had allotted for this project was not sufficient. The following are my GBs of data were needed to be copied in increasing amounts of time as the remaining data decreased. The conclusion is This product is an excellent choice if you do not have a time constraint and the amount of data that needs to be transferred is less than 250GB. If you need your disks to free up and be ready to be used within a certain period then I suggest trying an alternative. I do not have an email address.

This is a good method for cloning a hard drive quickly
5/5

You can use this device to clone a hard drive to an image that can be stored on a larger hard disk and recovered as required to the original hard drive or to a new hard drive. It is highly efficient, much faster than free software for disk cloning At work, I had two of these and liked them so much that I bought one for home use so that I can ensure that I have solid backups of all the hard drives on all the computer systems I use to develop software. The library images are in a proprietary format, but I don't mind as long as it is capable of recovering the image when necessary.

Duplicator that is very fast
4/5

As far as I'm concerned, this is the fastest SATA to SATA duplicator that I've used. The only reason it loses a star in my opinion is because it has problems with some Windows 10 partitions and I have not been able to determine what the common factor In several instances, I have experienced BAD MASTER HDD warnings when I attempted to duplicate particular Windows 10 hard drives It works for those drives that the Startech is having trouble with when I use my Carry On duplicator (which has about half the speed of the Startech). In spite of this small issue, I highly recommend the new Startech for anyone looking for a quick SATA drive backup device.

A quick backup is a good idea if you need to protect your drive
5/5

The machine can create an image of your hard drive or a fast copy of it on another hard drive of the same or larger size, so you can quickly make a backup of your hard drive. You can have it done in less than 15 minutes if you are using a Samsung EVO 750. It can backup more than 50 GB in less than 15 minutes using SSD storage.

I've used it several times and it works perfectly
5/5

I've used it several times and it works perfectly. It is very fast to replicate a hard drive. Indicates whether replication has been successful or not. This is an indication that the sector is not good. Happy with my purchase.

The program is very useful
5/5

It is a great utility if you work in a tech industry who copies or erases hard disks on a regular basis. One limitation is that large drives can't be copied to small ones.

It works like an advertisement, but it doesn't let you copy "file and/or content"
4/5

The copying of the "file and content" mode from a large hard drive to a small hard drive cannot be done. As an example A hard drive with 8TB has 4TB of data, and cannot be copied to a drive with 6TB of data.
