Questions & Answers

Can anyone confirm whether this is a viable Plex media server solution?

In order to clarify, you can absolutely use this as storage for the media that you host on a plex server, but you'll need to run the plex server on another device. It's kind of like A Plex server can be run on practically any USB external drive or NAS drive without taking up a great deal of system resources. Streaming from Plex to other computers takes far fewer resources than it would take for your iPad since the server computer has to reencode the media to a format your iPad can use) As much as seven local network 1080p streams can be streamed to the 10+ year old computer I described with no apparent lag, and I have tried streaming multiple 1080p video remotely without lag. The bottom line In the words of dr. If you would like to host all your music, video, and pictures on this server, but not run your own plex server, this can be used to do so.

The three questions are What is the default location of the file manager in Windows 10 pro? What is the possibility of encrypting the contents? Do I have the option to directly copy the files to the drive via USB?

If you plan on using this with Windows 10 you'll need to map it as a network drive. Yes, you can encrypt the contents. I don't think that it's a USB device, I believe

Can you use the time machine with this?

In a way. It seems that the multicast DNS (bonjour) feature appears to fail frequently, which causes time machine to break when it sees it.

Would I be able to connect a usb cable to this drive in order to access files on it using my computer or TV? Is there a need for a network connection to access stuff?

A harddrive docking station is all you need if you want to connect via USB. In any case, they are much less expensive than network attached storage, and there is less opportunity for electronics failure. There are a few downsides to this, but it's better on the whole unless you're interacting with someone who's incapable of connecting and disconnecting equipment, in which case it's worse. It is possible to switch from one drive to another and store many at the same time.

You should find something else instead of this old technology
3/5

A backup solution that integrates with Active Directory (AD) for security and backs up Windows Server 2012 R2 drives was needed. NAS devices which support AD integration require the SMBv1 protocol to be turned on. In response to the deprecation of SMBv1, Microsoft no longer uses this protocol, which means It is unlikely that Microsoft will continue to support SMBv1, since it is planned to be removed The requirement for this device led me to return it and look for something different. Regarding the configuration of the NAS (other than Active Directory), if you are familiar with networking, it should be easy for you, but if not, I would recommend something else.

This is a basic drive which automatically restarts after a power outage
5/5

The TeraByte Linkstation 210 has replaced three Buffalos originally purchased 12 years ago. The Buffalos had been totally reliable but have recently been having power supply issues (dry A power outage also caused the computers to have to be restarted. I am pleased to announce that the 210s will automatically boot up when it is turned on. There is no need for UPS. Power is supplied by an external supply. Here I see a lot of negative reviews that probably reflect a lack of documentation and a lack of "walk-throughs" As a result- As a result- Setting up an "entire-process" is essential. Since I don't even bother with software, I don't even worry about it. By default, Buffaloes find a home through DHCP, then I use a network scan to find them, following which I sign in as Administrator. Starting the logging in process and setting up normally takes less than two minutes. It will be ready to use once I switch the admin password, configure a static IP address, rename the drive, enable FTP, and enable other services. For those concerned with revisions to server message blocks, this device uses the SMBv2 protocol for now, which is appreciated by Windows 10. We have tried it on our Win 10s, our Mac, and our Linux Mint systems and it works flawlessly. Previously, the model had been compatible with Time Machine, but now features a built-in printer and media The system has a system of incremental backups using external USB flash drives. * It does not have a system of live backups. Since it is intended for home use, it can be tweaked for every little thing, but it is effective. Therefore, if you are familiar with NAS devices and networks, then you should be able to use this software. Apparently Buffalo needs to figure out a way for those who are not residents to have access to government services There will be techies who will setup the system. It would be great if there were videos to accompany PDFs in the knowledge base. Make sure to explain what a router is, how to log in and how port forwarding can be set up on a firewall. Learn how to map a network drive. Or you can just ask a 10 year old to help you with it these days.

I returned it because it never worked
3/5

It would be a waste of my time and energy to spend all my time working on a simple product. It has been returned to me. After I uploaded it to my network, it appeared on my up-to-date Firstly, macs couldn't find it because of the 32b/64b software. Second, the install of the software had an issue since it was 32bit and macs prefer 64bit In the case of it failing to find the device, I looked at the website, but it was of no use. The instruction insert and the online pdf didn't contain any troubleshooting information, which could make this a fun hobby for you if you enjoy tinkering with products to make them do what they should. Nevertheless, if you need it to work as it's supposed to, this isn't the product you need. *Not sure if it would handle Windows.

A very disappointing experience
3/5

As much as I wanted this to work, it just didn't. The setup of the game was criticized by a lot of reviewers. Despite not being a professional in the field, I am much better than most amateurs. So I was confident I could handle the task. It was reported that the documentation was inaccurate by the other reviewers After about five hours, I decided to contact support.
I called 1-888-GET-SUPPORT. A support representative will respond to you within one The team tried but was unable to come up with any ideas. 1 & 2 In the past two days, I've been waiting on Buffalo support. It doesn't matter if the company closes after five or works on the weekend. After I finally got in touch with a technician, he took one and a half hours, using the Buffalo utilities, to get it set up. In response to my point that it still didn't work in my Windows 10 environment, he dismissed me with the explanation that the company "doesn't support Windows applications". 3 - Support from Microsoft - Another two hours of waiting, but I finally got good service. It was great to work with someone who really wanted A lot of work went into getting it to work, he had to jump through all kinds of hoops. Finally, he was able to get it working on my main computer. In addition, he explained that the same procedure would have to be repeated on the other PCs on my network. In addition to writing down what he did, he detailed his actions in his journal. The NAS had been connected to only one PC as of this time It looked pretty much like an external drive. Carefully copying every setting I could find, I returned to my other machines. The solution did not work. It took me another five hours to conclude the Buffalo NAS wasn't worth the hassle, not in the era of Office 365 at least. Additionally, I would like to add It turned out that the promised 2T of storage was only about 1T. A Buffalo utility system will be installed on the 8 T. There seems to be an excess here.

Then you need to read this if you're bothered by 1 star reviews
5/5

Prior to buying this, I read the reviews and noticed that the 5 star reviews say the device works perfectly, but the 1 star reviews say they had to go through all kinds of hoops in order to get it to work or that Considering the price is so good, I decided to take the chance and see what might happen, and I am very glad I did! My MacBook Pro running Mojave didn't require the CD I simply plugged it in as illustrated in the instructions, and it began working right away. I've heard a lot of them are defective, so if you don't receive one right away, maybe you can exchange it. You won't find a better value anywhere else!.
