Questions & Answers

Please let me know where I can purchase this hat in a size small. Since my hair loss, I have gained a half inch (21 1/2"). Is there anything in this size available?

It is our regret that we only offer a Medium size on our website.

Do you prefer the Sombrero or the Sombroliet because it covers the most skin? Can you tell me how they differ?

As the sombrero has a fleece lining, it's not to be worn in the summer. Instead, this is a better choice for wearing in the spring and summer.

The brim of this hat measures how wide is it at the widest point in inches? In the back, does the brim of the hat appear to be larger?

The amount of time I spend on it is never measured. You don't need too much protection, though, but enough for your face, neck, back of the hat has a larger brim. The four I bought are still in the box. This is an experience you will not regret.

Around 22" is the size of my head. Could you tell me whether the large or x-large would be a better purchase A large company. My sincere thanks go out to you! ?

They state on their website that I have a small, and it's 21 5/8" - 22 1/4" Item dimensions medium 22 1/2 inches - large 22 3/4 inches A large measured 23 1/4" and the reviews states that it does indeed fit to size instead of running larger or smaller. I suppose medium would be a good estimate

Taking care of the garden with a hat
3/5

There are several of these Outdoor Research Sombriolet Sun Hats in my possession. It was important for me to have a stylish hat to wear while It's been okay with me I took good care of them. As a result of my analysis, I have learned the following A good amount of sun protection is provided The problem is that it does not seem to be a good solution. There is no flat surface on the sides of the hat and it curves upward, which in my opinion does not look as good as a normal flat hat. There is too much air in the back of the hat, which puckers so much it looks odd and is not very attractive. There is no stitching on the brim of the hat, so it has a flimsy I have found that the underside of the brim looks very ragged after a short amount of time. I have also received many hats damaged during shipping because they weren't boxed properly. It is not possible to wear these hats out and about anymore, since they are ragged and I only wear them.

Close but not quite perfect, OR's Sombriolet Sun Hat does the job
4/5

Working as a field biologist in South Florida since 1979, I have experience with marine and terrestrial organisms. Sun exposure of this intensity is a concern, and the sooner you recognize and take steps to deal with it, the longer you'll be able to work and play Initially, a hat like this might seem pretty expensive, but after the dermatologists start cutting bits and pieces off of your body, you may realize it is an inexpensive health insurance plan. Here are some observations about the Sombriolet and competing "sun hats," based on experience in a hot, humid climate along the coast of There is some truth to the popular myth that ball caps shade the back of the neck or the sides of your face, and may pull hair into your ears otherwise hidden. A broad range of options are available They all offer their own benefits, but they each have their own disadvantages. There are many styles of straw hats, "lifeguard" hats, and Panama hats that are made from various natural plant materials (stems from grasses, plant fronds, etc. ). Lightweight and made from renewable resources Its color, weight, and lightness make it perfect for outdoor activities Having a straw hat that is ventilated is wonderful. The rub is They are only good for a short time. A long life. Let me clarify that straw hats are a great way to protect your head from summer sun and heat. However, if I may paraphrase the great Yogi Berra's malaprop ("It ain't the heat, it's the humility') In regards to straw hats, I am of the opinion that humidity is more problematic than heat. A straw hat will quickly lose shape if it is subjected to sweat or rain. The hat's most exposed edges will look ragged and dirty in a hurry once their edges have been abraded by branches on a hike. In my experience, straw hats aren't often available more than a week or three before they begin to resemble a shapeless "hillbilly hat," not an item Bogart might have worn with class in Tangier. Adding to the straw hat theme. The first "Panamas" can cost as little as $50, but the most expensive can cost several hundred Hats known as "Panamas", on the other hand, made famous people look cool on hot days You can think of Edward G Robinson in "Key Largo," Sidney Greenstreet in "Casablanca," Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird," Sean Connery in "The Man Who Would Be King," and of course, Teddy Roosevelt. Then Panama is the place to be! Having worn similar hats in the past, I can say they quickly lose their shape. I haven't tried the more expensive ones, however. In spite of doing your best to keep your Panama (or any "straw" hat) out of the rain, I have never managed to remove sweat from the brim and grime from the sides of the hat. The fibers can be protected without being damaged. I love the Breezer sun hat from Henschel Hat Company. It's one of my two favorite sun hats. The Breezer providing great protection of everything below the brim is available in 3" and 4" brim sizes. These three caveats should be noted It has shrunk, is soiled with sweat (salt), and doesn't offer adequate sun protection along the sides of the cylindrical part You might want to be aware that when your Breezer gets wet it shrinks as it dries because it is made of rugged cotton duck or twill. When it has time to dry while it is not being worn, it will remain cleaner longer. I will let a wet "Breezer" sit in the heat carelessly. It is almost guaranteed that it will shrink under the windshield of any car. Breezer hats are also designed to absorb sweat, as we previously discussed. In my opinion, it eventually wicks its way out to the brim if you provide enough of it (which I do). Drying has the effect of leaving white salt stains on darker brims (especially on lighter fabrics). There is a way to get rid of the salt If the hat is soaked in warm freshwater, especially from rainwater or distilled water, the salt stains can be pretty well removed. Scrub with a soft brush, add a bit of mild detergent (such as Woolite), and you'll see that some dirt comes up with it, "Block" the hat's crown with a bunched-up shape and then shape with a round edge Stack a few wads of newspaper on top of the rim to protect it. It should be dried somewhere with better airflow and no heat, as it will shrink if it is heated. I have purchased some "extra extra large" (XXL) Henschel hats that will fit my "medium" head friends now. I have found that even the tough Breezer can lose its shape after some time (and with a little care), but I have put that off for two or three years at the most. Air flow is sacrificed for UV protection, which is found above the brim with the Breezer's mesh. Yoko Ono may be okay if you still have a lot of hair, but you'll have problems if your hair is extremely short, thinning, or simply a lot shorter. A dermatologist didn't seem impressed with my skin. Lastly, Outdoor Research has created the Sombriolet, a sun hat that is made out of modern materials and combines traditional and innovative features. The hat will shade everything, from the top of your head down to the collar of your t-shirt. A tough-looking T-shirt with sun-resistant colors. The fabric is synthetic and the colors seem to hold up well. With gentle scrubbing in hot water with detergent, it is even resistant to shrinkage (no shrinkage at all. There is better ventilation on the crown than I've seen on any other headgear I've seen with this much UV protection. The fit is also excellent. You cannot be bitten by bugs through the crown of the hat since the crown rides loosely around your head. As a result of the rain, the Sombriolet gets drenched. That's what I believe too. Rain runs off the 4" wide brim, collecting on the crown, and is routed downhill through the 4" wide brim. Some water, however, will get into the crown and brim. He tucked the hat back into his pocket. This creates a Niagra Falls of water streaming down your back (OR also makes a waterproof Seattle Sombrero, though either will require a raincoat or umbrella if you don't want your back and seat soaked. After the weather (and your hat), you can wear this hat as it still fits as good as new after the weather fades. It dries faster than any hat that I have ever worn because its lightweight but rugged fabric is tough but light. The other plus is its unusual location. With a drawstring hidden in the band, the fit is adjustable. And, "XL" truly does mean "XL. ". This hat size is 7 and 3/4 and I had to tighten it just a bit. There must be some type of leader. (stainless steel? It is possible. Most of the time, if the hat is folded the wrong way, it can be returned to its original shape, or very close to it. The downsides? To begin with, if you are walking or paddling into a stiff breeze, the brim collapses either over your eyes or down. If you're wearing a hat, you should wear it upwards. It is out of the way in the latter case. However, it does not provide any sun protection any longer. For that reason, if I'm going out in a stiff breeze, I tend to wear my Henschel Hat's "Breezer" with its very wide brim and, since it fits so snugly, I seldom have to adjust For most days, I wear the OR Sombriolet with its chinstrap tucked into the crown of the hat, or that strap is left off. It was hard to learn (the hard way) not to loop the chinstrap up behind the crown and over the back brim as I usually do with Then do that with the SOmbriolet and you'll have the constant stress you're looking for- The brim is reshaped gradually, permanent pulling of the sides into an upward arc ("Aussie-style" The style name). Your face and neck will be exposed to more sunlight since it is on the side. The first (khaki) Sombriolet brim has never returned to its original (and preferred) flat shape, but I've switched to my white Sombriolet, which I find to be a bit cooler when worn in South Florida. I would like to share one more thing I have learned from experience During the summer, I spray DEET insect-repellent on the underside of the brims of my OR Sombriolets and Henschel Breezer hats in order to keep them from getting nipped by mosquitos. It also means my face and neck are less exposed to chemicals, because DEET won't drip into my eyes when I sweat. It also means that the protection offered by DEET will remain even if I wipe my face or neck with a cloth. As a result, this system keeps mosquitoes, midges, and deer flies out of a zone that extends approximately 12 inches under the hat brim, protection that comes with the added benefit of lasting longer than spraying Does DEET causing some minor distortion from its perfectly flat form. In any case, there is a minor effect, and there is an outstanding benefit. Also, whether you wear a hat or not, you should be wearing good sunblock or UVA/UVB sunscreen in south Florida with its white limestone, water, and boat decks, all of which reflect a lot of sunlight back down.

This hat is perfect for outdoor work and recreation, and the customer service is superb
5/5

I spend a lot of time outside as part of my job. As to my job, I love the great outdoors (otherwise I wouldn't have it), but I am of mixed German and Bavarian Bavarian Germans are exceptional at the following three things 1

1. Brewing beer in a brewery 2. Adding sausage to the cooking pot. The genetics of me gives me some protection from getting sunburned throughout the rest of the year, despite the fact that I tan darkly as soon as I go out in the summer. There is only one part of my hair that is not Every chance I get, the part of my hair that catches the sun will get a burn. If you have never had sunburn on a part of your body before, it makes showering, washing, and even brushing your hair a pretty delicate event. It seems unlikely that many people would want their hair to be covered in sunscreen. I found this Sombriolet hat while searching through a range of women's sun hats (there were a lot of them that were clearly geared toward fashion, and not practical for outdoor work/recreation). The Sombriolet has been my companion for two months now. I have been enjoying it through some of the hottest, stickiest, most unpleasant summer weather that this region has to offer. The Sombriolet arrived on a flat, stiff shipping envelope. I definitely recommend. In spite of being dropped, the brim was kept good and safe, and the collapsible crown did not suffer at all. After I put it on, I found the crown a bit tight around my head, but I quickly found the adjuster strap, and voilĂ  - I was all set. This is the perfect fit for you! In the sweatband of the hat, you will find a very soft, comfortable material. As well as being extremely wicking, it also seems to dry quickly. Although I have worn the Sombriolet for long periods under uncomfortably warm, heavy rain, and very humid conditions, I have never felt a buildup of sweat. Additionally, I found myself pleasantly surprised when I received the hat to see just how many vents there were, and where they were positioned. It looks subtle, but they have quite a powerful effect The sweat buildup was not too uncomfortable even in apparently oppressively humid conditions such as those described by coworkers who work outdoors. I love the way the brim sticks out more on the back than on the front of the hat My hat arrived without any warning - I didn't realize that until it was delivered. Wearers use them as a sunshade to protect their necks. In a windy climate, a gust will only cause the side of the brim which bears the brunt of the wind to tilt up a little. If it's windy, be sure to tie the chin cord cinch, or your hat might not tilt so much as it might sail away with all the gusto of an old Currently, the only complaint I have with the brim is that it sticks out just enough that I have a little extra difficulty when going The fit of the hat may vary from individual to individual, but reducing the brim even a little might compromise Despite having the wind cinch piece drawn up to keep the wind from blowing it away, all I remember I'm wearing is the hat, which is lightweight, comfortable, and I often forget it's on! Additionally, the hat is quite attractive, which I consider an added bonus to its convenience and comfort. The windy conditions forced me to take off my Sombriolet for a while. The cinch piece for the chin cord was lost due to a freak accident (the throttle fitted on a boat ate it). As soon as I heard what had happened, I called Outdoor Research. I spoke with a very friendly woman on the phone, and a few days later, I received a small package in the mail with two new cinch pieces, and some Outdoor Research decals (which were actually quite neat).

Providing protection on all sides
5/5

A woman with a larger than a 7-inch chest is ineligible In the case of head sizes greater than 5/8", this is a great option. One size fits all doesn't cut it for those with "big brains. " I love that this hat has a large brim, so you can shade your face, ears, and neck without looking like Audrey Hepburn in her big black hat in Breakfast at Tiffany's. There is a wire around the brim so you can play with it and shape it as you need to. The SPF rating is something I'd like to verify, but I won't spend the $40k to verify it myself, but I'll assume that they have. It makes sense because any real Sun Protection item of any kind is going to cost a lot of money to obtain a SPF rating. It is for that reason that a rated hat such as this costs so much more than the "sun hats" from China that probably have not been certified and most likely do not have actual SPF ratings. In addition, skin cancer is commonly caused by the exposure to ultraviolet light. You'll have the best protection from UV rays when you wear this hat on your head -- the place where you get the most sun.
