Questions & Answers

Is this insulated? I live in the south and need a non-insulated jacket that's not too expensive. ?

No, but I believe a removable liner can be purchased. However, one was not included. It still gets warm without the liner, but not nearly as much as the vinyl or I'd rain gear. It does a good job of venting. I've had this rain suit for about a year and can say that it's not bad. The jacket's zipper did, however, break after about 6 months. On the flap that goes over the zipper, two of the velcro squares came off as well. When there is a lot of movement, the velcro alone is insufficient to keep it shut. The zipper was eventually repaired, but it was not worth it in the end. The rain coveralls were excellent, and I had no problems wearing them. The coveralls are excellent, and I will purchase them again if necessary. I'm not sure if this is against policy, but there is another manufacturer of black high visibility that uses the same high-quality ripstop material. Onyx is the brand, and the jackets, in my opinion, are far superior to Vikings. It comes with or without a removable liner, and there are also bomber jackets available, both of which have a removable liner and are rainproof. The liner, on the other hand, must be purchased separately. After four months of use, the rain jacket has snaps that keep the flap over the zipper in place, and it's still in excellent condition. As of a month ago, they only offered insulated rain pants that fit over your pants, and as someone who lives in the south, I can tell you that when the temperature is around 45° F or higher, they are far too hot to wear. They are also of excellent quality, but I prefer the Viking brand coveralls for rainy days. In my opinion, the Onyx rain jacket/bomber and the Viking coveralls are the best options. I hope this has been of assistance.

Which size corresponds to which chest measurement in inches?

What is the chest size of a five-eighth?

Is the back jacket marked with an (X)? The X is required for my job. ?

Yes, there is an X on the back.

OSHA considers the jacket to be of what class of visibility. ?

For my job, I need an osha class 2 certification. It corresponds to that. I'm not sure if it's first or second class. Please accept my apologies for not being able to assist you further.

DO NOT BUY AS IT IS NOT A TRUE FR GRAMENT
3/5

NOT AN FR GRAMENT IN THE TRUE SENSE OF THE WORD. A FR RATING IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS PRODUCT. THE JACKET OR PANTS ARE ONLY RATED FOR HIGH VIS. DO NOT BUY IT AS IT DOES NOT MEET THE NFPA 2112 REQUIREMENTS. OR THERE IS NO CAT 3 OR CAT 4 RATING IN NFPA 2113.

Building materials are cheap in China
3/5

You can avoid the hassle. Yes, it is reflective. Yes, it was built on a shoestring budget. Nothing will fit in the pockets. They either developed holes right away, allowing items to pass through to the inside of the jacket, or they flew out because of poor design. This coat has already cost me a pair of prescription glasses, as well as a few small bolts and nuts. It would make a nice rain jacket if you tore the pockets out so you wouldn't be tempted to use them. MADE IN CHINA has yet again shone brightly.

Not at all what was described
3/5

I spent a significant amount of money on a product that claimed to be waterPROOF. That is not the case with this jacket. I was drenched after 45 minutes in the rain. I work as a refinery operator and spend a lot of time outside. With this jacket on, I'd rather wear a garbage bag because it will keep me dry better.

WATERPROOFING IS NOT AN OPTION! When it's not raining, these will keep you dry
3/5

Prepare to get wet if it's raining. This isn't going to keep you dry in the rain. I wish I could return it and the matching bibs, but I didn't realize I needed them until it was too late. These could be replaced with a cotton tank top to keep you dry. The build quality is excellent. The proportions are excellent. It has a nice appearance. The most important aspect of RAIN gear, the material and waterproofing, is lacking.

It's not meant to be used in a working environment
3/5

I've had velcro fall off the flap over the zipper, worn holes in the sleeves, and the reflective strips fall off in the less than five months I've had it. For a living, I work as a propane truck driver, filling tanks of all sizes. The holes in the sleeve, as far as I can tell, are caused by resting my forearms on tanks while filling them, on a painted, rolled metal edge that isn't even sharp. I'm not sure why the reflective striping around the body is failing, but I believe the cheap thread holding it on the sleeves has worn out. This caused the loose reflective tape to get caught on my truck's door latch, ripping open the sleeve seam. I had to reassemble the jacket with glue. This cost me $85 when I bought it, and it hasn't even lasted five months. I'm not sure what this jacket was made for, but it's not for working. It's also initially water resistant, but never waterproof. Take a look around.

Waterproofing is not an option
3/5

This has a nice baggy fit to it: I was disappointed by the zipper on the left side and the fact that the lining was not waterproof. I work outside in West Virginia/Pennsylvania, where it appears to rain all of the time. I don't mind spending the money, but I'd rather not get pneumonia and then realize the jacket isn't worth it. It's a good idea, but it's not executed well.

Stitching is of poor quality
3/5

I've only had this jacket for a month, and the stitching is fraying and coming loose in several places. The jacket's material appears to be fine, but the thread used is extremely thin and tears with even the slightest abrasion. In addition, the jacket is a full size too big. I ordered an extra large, which is the same size as all of my other jackets, but I had to return it for a large. I was unable to return the extra large because I had worn it and washed it, so I am stuck with it as well. If I had the opportunity, I would return both of them.

It is not worth the money because it is not waterproof but only water resistant
3/5

Only two months later, the zipper broke. This jacket is not 100% waterproof like the other reviews. You will still be wet if it rains heavily. This is not the set for you if you spend a lot of time laying down or crawling, as my job requires. Water seeps through the material even after it has been treated with spray waterproofing. This jacket has let me down big time.
