Questions & Answers

Is this something that can withstand being submerged in water?

Yes, it is waterproof; however, it isn't completely waterproof.

Is it possible to wax this jacket?

For water proofing, you can use Scotchguard or Nikwax on the fabric that each of our styles is made of.

Is there a large tall version available?

So, in my opinion.

Is this a warm jacket for the cold weather?

It was purchased for the purpose of construction. With a long-sleeved shirt underneath, it's quite warm; I layered a hoodie underneath because I usually work 200 feet in the air, where the wind is unconcerned. The temperature ranged from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. 60f. I'm not sure what's below that.

Selected User Reviews For Carhartt Men's Full Swing Relaxed Fit Ripstop Insulated Jacket

This is an excellent jacket
5/5

As one would expect from Carhartt, this jacket is extremely well-made and designed. The Full Swing features are fantastic, the material appears to be extremely durable, and the DWR should last for a long time since I won't be washing it frequently. It should be ideal for working outside in the winter when there is a breeze, snow, or light rain. At 6' 185 lbs, with relatively broad shoulders and minimal gut, I fall somewhere between a Medium and Large size in most Carhartt jackets. Because there was a sale and I wanted to make sure I got the right size, I ordered both a Medium and a Large. sized jacket for a great deal, and Amazon's free return shipping made it simple. I could get away with a Medium and a tighter fit because of the Full Swing design. However, I chose the Large so that I could wear quilted bib overalls and a layer or two underneath without difficulty. The chest/torso measurements seemed to make up the majority of the difference between the two sizes. The Large, I believe, had slightly wider shoulders and longer sleeves, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same and the extra width in the chest was the only difference in perception in that regard. The jacket has a cinch cord at the bottom hem, so the extra room in the large can be cinched up to keep the wind out. However, I reasoned that the extra room in the large would allow the jacket to breathe a little better while working outside, allowing me to avoid overheating. If you're undecided about which size to get, consider the following: br>br> If you want a more snug fit, go down a size; if you want room for layers, go up a size in other brands. Both will be accommodated by the Full Swing design, which allows for full range of motion and comfort. br>br>The hood is quite large, but I assume that's to fit over a hard hat. It was the same size in the Medium and Large sizes. The zipper was a little smaller than I'd been used to with Carhartts in the past, and it wasn't a double, but it was a lot easier to zip up and down - It also appears to be quite long lasting.

The appearance and fit are not identical to that shown in the photograph
3/5

Compared to Amazon's online photo, this jacket measured not as true. It has a ripstop cotton fabric with a check pattern. That fabric has almost a charcoal colored pattern rather than the black. I used my small measurements in general, because I am not accustomed to finding this size. I really wanted to like this jacket, but the fit was terrible.

Great rugged work coat, I removed the hood because I didn't need it, so it's really nice that it can be removed or installed
4/5

The materials, from the fabric to the zippers and buttons, feel extremely durable and I'm confident they will last a long time. There are plenty of pockets for gloves, cell phones, conceal carry, or lunch. The only complaint I have is that the size is off; I've always worn medium and this one made me feel like an elf in a medium and probably made me look like one as well, so I had to return it and try a small. Small! I haven't worn a size small since I was twelve years old. And the small is so tight that I can't add any more weight or it'll be donated. Because it's a Full Swing style, I understand that it's supposed to be a loose-fitting coat, but seriously? With my arms down, the arm length would completely cover my hands, and there was far too much room in the torso. I believe Carhart missed the mark on these coats' sizing, so try one on before ordering or use Amazon's wardrobe system because you aren't shrinking, it's the coat.

HOOD IS EXTREMELY LARGE! / It's the most comfortable jacket I've ever worn
4/5

This is an excellent jacket. I'm 6'3" and 250 pounds, and this looks great with my Carhartt duck vest. For the longest time, I wore a medium jacket that was getting tight around the shoulders (and other places). Carhartt is always a size and a half large for me, even though I normally wear an xl. Because I'm familiar with the situation, it fit perfectly. This is the new jacket I'm wearing on a regular basis. It's warm (I live in Alaska, so this is important to me), comfortable, and not obnoxious in appearance. The hood, on the other hand, is enormous! My head is swallowed up by it! If you don't wear a hat, the pull string will cover your eyes, and there's no way to fix it. Aside from that, five stars.

Great coat with a huge hood
4/5

The coat itself is warm, roomy, rugged, and attractive. It's waste length, which means it doesn't go below your belt line, and it's mid-length. It's light weight and ideal for mild winters with few days below freezing. With the exception of the hood, everything is fine. I can't use it because it's so big. It droops down and covers my face, making it impossible for me to see where I'm going. Also, any side views are blocked, which makes crossing streets dangerous. I suppose it's great if you're stuck in a blizzard, but that's about it. Are these monstrous hoods found on all Carharrt jackets? Is that something you call a "feature"?.
