Questions & Answers

Is there any resistance to slipping?

These boots have a very solid foundation, great ankle support, and a grippy sole. I've never slipped on any surface, and I can easily navigate through dirt, rocks, and roots, even when it's wet outside.

Is the size chart on the website correct? Is the heel to toe measurement in inches correct? This is my first time wearing a size 14! ?

It was true to size for a size ten.

Are these boots made in the United States?

They're imported, according to the description. I'm not sure where the guy who said they're made in America got that information from. If he's talking about South America, that is.

Durable, stable, and comfortable
5/5

I'm very happy. Because I have bad ankles, I prefer ankle boots with good support and padding. Over the years, I've tried a lot of boots. I don't backpack, but I do go hiking in the spring and summer when the weather is nice. I tried out a pair of Salomon Quest 4D 2 black forces edition boots. That was the best pair of boots I'd ever worn right out of the box. For roughly two years, I wore them every day. I never took them off while working in the factory, hiking or pub crawling outside, or doing yard work. They finally began to deteriorate, with the glue primarily letting go. The boot's body was still in good condition, and it was still comfortable, but it was time for a new pair. I noticed that the Quest 4 had just been released and decided to order a pair. I prefer black boots, but khaki isn't a problem for me. I fell in love with the color scheme for the tan boots as soon as I saw it. I did the same thing as last time and put them on right out of the box, laced them up as tight as I felt comfortable, and went for a short walk. Then I undid and tightened them until they were a perfect fit. The new, wider lace eyelet strap is nice; it feels like it helps stabilize your foot without putting pressure points on the top of your foot. The loop- It's also a nice touch to pull on the tongue. These are everything that my Quest 2s were, and then some. I'm very happy. I'm thinking about getting a pair in black as well. For size comparison, a pair of under armour tennis shoes fits me like a glove in size 12, with just enough room, but they're too big in a 13. The width of these boots in a size 12 is perfect; they definitely give a little extra room in the toe box, and there's about a thumb's width between the front of my big toe and the inside front of the shoe. While walking, there is just enough room for my foot to spread and flex, but not enough to feel loose. The lacing system is incredible and extremely versatile; I imagine it could accommodate a wide range of foot shapes. I removed the insoles and replaced them with my own custom-made ones, which made them even more comfortable. Get your hands on a pair.

Very sad: (Can you tell me why Salomon changed his mind? Why? Why? Why? br>There was no need to 'improve' the predecessor

It was a brilliant concept
3/5

Pictured are: On the left, an older design 4D 3 GTX in black, and on the right, a newer design Quest 4 in tan. The older design has a wider toebox. On the new design, the overall length of a boot of the same size is longer. I'm hoping they make the right decision and restore the original design.

The fit and feel are classic Salomon
5/5

For a long time, I've been a Salomon fan. br>I own two pairs-- My everyday winter boots are the black and brown XUltras CS waterproof boots, but they have leather uppers with no mesh ventilation and are too hot in temperatures above 40°F. br>Last year, I purchased some 4D GTX Forces, which are fantastic shoes but come with the worst laces I've ever seen. BTW, IronLace (available on Amazon) is a great solution to this problem. It's time to make a new year's update. These boots were only delivered today, so these are my first impressions. Fit - My other Salomon boots look exactly like this one. All of the sizes 11 have the same feel to them. All have the same type of foot. The instep strap and pull loops atop the tongue are new this year, presumably to help position and center the gusseted tongue. The bottoms are a perfect fit. The upper cuffs are still breaking in, and the laces are currently cinched quite tight. It appears that dialing those aways takes a few days. If you like Salomon boots, they are well worth the money. br>Be aware, however, that most Salomon boots are hikers - not runners. They're not mountaineering boots, and they can't handle shale, loose rock, or other abrasive terrain.

This is a fantastic boot that has made a significant improvement
5/5

For years, I've been wearing and hiking in Salomon boots on a daily basis. The toe box was a little tight, and the laces were terrible (too long and came untied). With this boot, Salomon has addressed both of these issues. The toe box is generous but not excessively so, which is ideal for me. The heel still fits perfectly, and the ankle support is fantastic. Over any terrain, this boot is incredibly stable. These are now my favorite pair of boots (I have a lot of them, including glacier boots). In comparison to previous models, this one is a significant upgrade. One word of warning to first-time buyers: I buy these shoes 1/2 size larger than usual.

At this price point, there are better options on the market
3/5

The standard of the product is poor. I've only had these boots for 30 days and have only used them on relatively flat, paved trails with little incline, but the early signs of wear on these boots scream poor materials and quality control. These boots could literally fall apart after a few years of light use, but they could last 90 days of real outdoor hiking in rough terrain. Because the insoles were missing, you'll need to invest in a good pair of insoles for these. I'm not sure how this hasn't ripped apart yet because the stitching was mostly done by a dog, and there's a lot of loose string everywhere. I might as well just hike barefooted at this point because the shoe glue they used must have been dog water because it's already starting to wear off. I'm thinking of giving these to my dog, who might be able to make better use of them.

The absolute best hiking boots available
5/5

This is the second time I've worn a pair of Salomon boots. They are extremely comfortable to wear on long hikes. When compared to other boots I've worn, its water resistance and impermeability are unrivaled. They do a fantastic job of protecting your ankle. The quality of the material and construction ensures that they will last a long time. The ones I bought three years ago are still in great shape.

It's good, but it's a step in the wrong direction
4/5

I previously owned a pair of these boots, and they are fantastic. br>br>These were ordered in the sand color, and they fit perfectly and look fantastic. The new front strap, which alters the lace path, is, however, a huge blunder. It causes the tongue to clump together and protrude like a pillow. I'm not sure how this slipped through the cracks during testing. br>br>They're sturdy and will probably last as long as the previous version, but the tongue thing makes them look odd/silly when you're wearing them around with a weird bunch sticking out. These aren't $100 boots that I'd be willing to overlook because of the price; I expect a better product for the money.
