There are about two inches of brim on this hat. A total of 75" on all sides. Printed sides provide about 2" of coverage however, when curled up they only cover about 2".
The measurement I took was 22′′ and I chose medium for my size. I was not worried about it being happy with how the fit turned out. XL seems to be the right choice for you. The size up option sounded like it had been recommended, so I didn't do it.
Typically, I put mine on when it is raining or when it is cold. I have had mine for a couple of years and I work outside. I have found it to work very well in the rain, but after a while I decided to put a little mink oil on it and it works even better.
