Yes, it comes in handy when it's snowing.
My son has worn these shoes on rainy, cold days and his feet have remained dry! However, if it's going to be cold and snowy, I'd pair them with some wool socks.
My grandson is seven years old. He is 3 years old and wears a size 3 child's shoe. I'm assuming your four-year-old is still wearing toddler shoes? I hope this has been of assistance. I understand how perplexing it is!
This hiking boot is built to last. We live in Alaska, and I figured that at these low prices, these shoes would last no more than a month in our spring weather. These lasted for over a year, and my son was disappointed when they were no longer available because they were too small.

I usually buy his clothes and shoes from one store, but the prices were so high that I decided to look for something else. My grandson will only wear them for a season before growing out of them, so I was looking for both quality and a reasonable price. These boots are both, great quality at a very reasonable price. The boots are rugged and strong on the outside for walking and climbing, but the inside is soft and comfortable for his feet. Even the heel of the boots has a metal piece that opens up for traction on icy terrain. I'll be buying these year after year as he grows because the fit was perfect, with plenty of room for him to wear winter socks without feeling squished inside.
These were purchased as a gift for my young son. He likes how they look and how they close with a snap. The metal spike on the bottom broke off the first time he wore them, despite the fact that they are fairly hefty and the material appears to be durable. In addition, there isn't much cushioning in the sole. For relatively short weekend hikes on basic terrain, I believe they are adequate. This is not the boot to choose if you plan on doing any serious hiking or require a high-quality boot.
He's a "tough boy" who is constantly kicking rocks, scuffing his shoes, and jumping and climbing. This is his favorite pair of boots. Until recently, when flip flop season and beach time arrived, he was wearing these on a daily basis rather than just on our family hikes. And based on the puddles he's discovered, they appear to be fairly watertight. We've tried to avoid putting that part to the test for disaster prevention, but he's still gotten himself into a few. Also, he claims that the heel "spikes," as he refers to them, are the best thing ever! I was concerned that they would be too difficult for him to flip out, but he has no trouble doing so. My only concern is that if we're walking on pavement, even with this spike folded in, he'll make a clicking sound when the metal on his heel makes contact with the hard surface. I'm concerned that this cool feature will eventually be exhausted. But, all in all, we'd buy another pair for the price! He is smitten with them.
The shoes have a nice appearance and are extremely comfortable on the inside. However, when we tried to adjust the laces, the lining for the inside came out very easily, and the clip that holds the laces in place also broke. I've added two new images to the mix: One has a broken clip, while the other has a clip that is still intact. br>br>ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL ADDIT The seller apologized and offered to send me a replacement pair of shoes at no cost. The seller's prompt response, acceptance of responsibility for the defect, and prompt resolution have earned me a much higher rating. The new shoes will have to wait and see.
In order to attend science camp, my son needed hiking boots. He is 6 feet tall and wears a size 6 shoe. In shoes, a 5/7. I ordered a size up for a more snug fit and to ensure that they would last a long time, as these are extremely tight. The side buckles are a bit of a pain to get on and off. When he tried to put one of the plastic pieces on, it snapped right off. Because it's made of plastic, I was able to reattach it with hot glue. They were adequate for the task at hand. br>Following science camp, he now uses these for paintball and is very successful! I would rate this product 5 stars if the side buckles were made of metal and were more solid. Overall, this is a good shoe.
In the past, I've had some that were made with ribbing and they didn't last very long, but for growing kids, these are a good all-weather shoe. They're all made of man-made materials, so they're not as breathable as a more expensive leather upper, and all shoes, in my opinion, need more arch support. These are still excellent for growing children. Replaceable inserts are available.
These were purchased for my 4-year-old son. year- I wanted some winter boots for my 8-year-old son that he could put on and take off himself. The three velcro straps for a secure fit are particularly appealing to me. When it's snowing, we only use the flip out cleat, which he enjoys. They aren't the best at keeping water out, as I discovered. However, I purchased some camp dry waterproofing spray, and they have remained dry inside since then. I'd strongly advise others to try these.
This is an incredible product! Everything about it was incredible, including the inside, which was lined with faux fur. They're a little on the heavy side, but not excessively so. br> The craftsmanship and quality are excellent. Unfortunately for us, I had to return them because they were too wide for my son's narrow feet. They were already on the bulky side, so with his narrow feet, they were way too wide.
