Questions & Answers

Please tell me if it's waterproof. ?

They aren't even close to being waterproof.

These are hiking shoes, according to the label. Do they hold up to everyday use and running?

Yes! It's doing a fantastic job! My son uses it for school on a daily basis and is very happy with it. This pair of shoes is fantastic!

Is it possible to wash these sneakers?

No, and it's very difficult to walk in. Ours was returned to us.

Do the big kid shoes have velcro on all sizes, or do some sizes turn into tie shoes?

Unfortunately, the Big Kid Size 1 is a lace-up with a hook-and-loop for added oomph.

Favorite shoes of my son; He's on his third pair of shoes after outgrowing the first
5/5

I'm looking at these because over the last four or five years, my son has owned three different pairs. These are my son's all-time favorite sneakers. While his 1-year-old replacement year- Although the Merrell Trail Chasers are old and show signs of wear, they have not failed in the way that so many other reviewers have. br>br>I'm uploading photos of our second pair, which was replaced one year and 12 days after purchase and was worn almost every day during the school year (except on rainy days and days when it was too hot to wear sandals). )br>br>Either Merrell quality control is lacking, or my son is unusually gentle with his shoes when compared to other children. We send him to a school in New England that emphasizes outdoor play every day, so his shoes see plenty of rain, mud, and running around on grass, gravel, and brick pavers, as well as concrete and asphalt. br>br>I can say that the velcro fastening strap on *other* pairs of shoes from other brands has been worn out by both of my children on occasion. With the Trail Chaser shoes, I don't think we're being overly cautious or delicate. ) They've held up well, as I'd expect from a good pair of hiking boots. br>br>After having my son's feet measured, I went to a Nordstrom store and purchased the first pair of Merrell Trail Chaser shoes. I found them on Amazon and bought his second pair in January 2019, after he outgrew them (but refused to wear any others). I purchased his third and most recent pair in January 2020. br>br>The Amazon listing has slightly changed from: br>Merrell Trail Chaser Hiking Shoe (Little Kid/Big Kid), Gunsmoke/Orange, size 2, Merrell Trail Chaser Hiking Shoe (Little Kid/Big Kid), size 2, Merrell Trail Chaser Hiking Shoe (Little Kid/Big Kid), size 2, Me to: 5 M US Little Kidbr>to: 5 M US Little Kidbr>to: 5 M US Little Kidbr Unisex M-Merrell Kids' M-Merrell Kids' M-Merrell Kids' M-Merrell Kids' M-Merrell Kids Gunsmoke/Orange Trail Chaser Sneaker, size 4, Apart from what is most likely a product listing change, we've had the same color combination of army green (Gunsmoke) and Orange for all three pairs, and neither my son nor I can tell the difference between the old and new pairs. br>br>It appears that more dissatisfied customers use different color combinations in their photos. If you're worried about quality, the Gunsmoke/Orange combination might be a better bet. br>br>The best review I can give is my child's passionate love for these shoes; I have a hard time convincing him to wear any other casual shoe. He prefers velcro to old-fashioned Velcro because it is faster. Laces for a tie that have been made in the traditional way. He appreciates how weather-resistant they are, as he can wear them even on rainy days. br>br>My son claims that his feet stay dry (unless he steps in a puddle that is so deep that it fills up from the top). )br>br>For other parents whose children adore the Merrell Trail Chaser shoes, I can suggest this style of boot for a child who might fit the same size: br>Merrell Chameleon 7 Access Mid Waterproof Boot Big Kid 5 Blackbr>br>I ordered a half-size up to accommodate thick winter socks. My son likes the boots as well, but we've only had them for a couple of weeks. br>br>In my opinion, if you like the look of these shoes, you should give them a try, but make sure you buy from a seller who offers a generous return policy in case you end up with a pair that looks like the ones in the other reviews. I'll keep buying them until my son outgrows the biggest size (or decides he prefers something else!).

TREAD is a great toddler shoe! SHOES WITH TREADS ARE FINALLY AVAILABLE! I've had a lot of trouble with toddler athletic shoes that have no tread
5/5

We enjoy hiking with our 2-year-old and were concerned about how many times his feet would slip out from under him on loose gravel trails. With these shoes, you won't have to worry about that anymore. He refers to them as his "grippy shoes. " br>They appear to be comfortable, as he also wears them on a daily basis. They appear to be well made, and I have no concerns that they will not last; I even had to wash them due to an unfortunate potty training mishap, and they came out clean (air dry). br>They are a little difficult to put on, but the pull tab on the heel is a huge improvement over the others we tried. My two-year-old can take them off by himself, but he needs assistance putting them on.

Shoes that are wide are a little too small
4/5

These are fantastic shoes, and I expect them to last longer than most of the others I've bought for my three children. year- old. Their width, on the other hand, is a problem for me. They're labeled "wide," which is why I ordered them - Wide shoes are required for my son. I'm not sure if they're not quite as wide as they should be, or if the tightness is due to the elastic no-tie. My child's shoes are difficult to put on because of the laces. To put it another way, I *believe* the shoe is wide enough, but the laces make it difficult for a child's feet to fit through the opening and into the wide space.

I couldn't get it on my son's foot because it was too big
3/5

These shoes have a great design and are well-made. My only issue is that my son's feet are wide, so I ordered a size larger than his current size, but the opening of the shoe was too narrow to accommodate his foot. I managed to put one shoe on, but I couldn't put the other on for the life of me. I had to return them because I was sizing up and thought they would only last a few months. These are probably great if your child's feet are normal or narrow in width, but they'll be difficult to get on if they're wide.

These are a pair of shoes that will last you a long time and will keep you comfortable
4/5

Merrell makes excellent shoes, and these are no exception. Edit 11/24: At the top of the shoe, where her foot slides in, they're falling apart. The fabric around her ankles is fraying, and this section of the shoe appears to have been worn every day for ten months, not one or two. The rest of the shoe, including the sole, is holding up well. They're still her favorite, but I'm not sure how much longer they'll last. br>br>My daughter is extremely picky when it comes to footwear. I've been purchasing her sneakers from Walmart and replacing them once a month! These are one of her favorite items. These are a pair of shoes that will last you a long time and will keep you comfortable. Merrell is known for their high-quality footwear, and these were no exception.

They are a hit with him! When it comes to my children's shoes, I'm a little crazy
5/5

Plae, Keen, and Merrell are three of our most popular brands. For various reasons, I adore them all. This is my son's first pair of Merrells, and he is overjoyed with them. When you slip your heel into a shoe and hear that perfect fit noise and feel that perfect fit feel, you know it's a good fit. (Imagine Mr. Rogers on his way to the shoe store. ) This is how my son looks in these! He takes pride in his more mature-looking sneakers, which he wears frequently. We'll probably keep wearing this exact shoe for a while, or until he grows tired of it. We usually only have one or two pairs of shoes on hand at any given time, preferring quality over quantity! So far, the quality has been excellent, and I've already advised my son to be gentle with the velcro, which he has done.

Go up a size or a size and a half
3/5

All of my son's other boots, shoes, and sandals are a size 4 or 5 - Some 5s are a little big, while 4s are perfect. As a result, I considered the number 5. He'd do well in the number 5. I can't even get his foot into the shoe, which is a shame because he was so excited to open the box and keep trying to put them on. The elastic straps under the Velcro strap are extremely tight, and there doesn't appear to be any way to loosen them like shoe laces would. I wish my son could wear this shoe, but he'd need a size 6 (or 6) to fit into it. 5) to even be able to get his foot in the door.
