The loops on the pants, is that what you're referring to? The belt will need to be held in place by the loops if that is the case. You can adjust the belt's width when it loops because of the change in waist size. My favorite feature is that you can adjust the belt according to your size.

Buying shorts and pants without a belt can be difficult for a child that is tall and has a narrow waist. This belt works well, more or less.
