I wouldn't call it waterproof; rather, I'd describe it as water resistant. Can withstand a light rain, but if submerged for an extended period of time, the feet may be swept away!
I bought a size that fits a big kid, which is usually a size 6 or 7. Simply use standard shoe sizing, which can be found at other children's shoe stores.
It's not quite a hiking boot, but neither is it quite a traditional sneaker. A happy medium is not a good answer. These have been on my son's feet for months, and we go hiking frequently. There was no damage to the ankle. They're fantastic.
No, the fabric and mesh aren't waterproof, but they're light and quick to dry.

The shoe itself appears to be in good condition, but the laces on each shoe frayed at the ends and the shell of the lace separated from the inner cord after only 3 months of ownership (which only translates to occasional use). If the laces are removed, they will not be able to thread through the holes because the outer shell of the laces remains loose and pushes back, drawing only the inner cord through. Yes, replacing the laces is only about $8, but given that it's a KIDS shoe (which should be expected to last) that ALREADY cost $60 to begin with, the quality is severely lacking. Replacing the laces raises the cost of the shoe by 13%, so please consider if the total price is what you'd really like to spend for a kids hiking shoe you'd% Columbia's Customer Service department was also of no assistance. Even though I am only claiming a defect on the shoelaces, they require you to mail the pair of shoes to them at your expense in order to claim the warranty. They didn't seem to care about standing behind their product, much less attempting to reach a fair solution or demonstrating any sort of regard for customer satisfaction. When I simply asked if I could return the laces via mail, I was told to go out and buy new laces "and be done with it"! So, I did it, and it's now complete, but I'm extremely dissatisfied with this company.
Because I couldn't find a women's hiking shoe that fit, I went with a kid's shoe (which was cheaper!). In preparation, I've been walking around Seattle's stormy sidewalks and dog parks. I don't believe these needed to be broken in, and I've been quite comfortable wearing them. The treads have a good grip on the ground, and they make me feel great. br>br>The super stiff laces are the drop in star. I'm a grown woman, and it takes a lot of effort to tighten this shoe and tie it in a bow. I'm pretty sure the kids would just tie a loose knot and leave. br>br>I am a size 2 in shoes. In children, the score is 5/3, and in adults, the score is 4 - Women's sizes range from 5 to 5 (depending on the brand). I wear a size 3 in these and they fit perfectly.
My nephew loved them, and when my sister told him they were waterproof, he said they fit good too lol. Then he walks over to his older brother and father and says guess what, and they say what, and he says my shoes are waterproof soo cute, and he didn't want to take them off to sleep lol.
This is a fantastic recipe! These were purchased for my 11-year-old daughter to use on hikes in Utah and Arizona. Her feet are long and slender, but she needs a wider toe bed because her instep and arches are high. She never once complained about her feet hurting during the entire trip, which included days of hiking and walking. Yes, they're also waterproof! PERFECTION PERFECTION PERFECTION PERFEC.
He's gone on several mile hikes with no foot pain because of the shoe's durability and waterproofness. They will, of course, get wet if completely submerged in water. We've bought several pairs of these shoes, and the only issue I've had with them is that they don't keep their shape. They fit fairly true to size, they can appear a little wide but you definitely want a little room for socks and foot swelling when going on long hikes. If your child is like mine and just pulls the shoes off without untying them, they tend to lose shape and are not as supportive, but as long as they are tied and tightened properly, they are fine.
I bought these for my son to use on Boy Scout hikes and campouts because we live in Minnesota, which means it's cold and/or rainy most of the time. The quality of these shoes is exceptional. It rained all weekend at his last camp out, but he still managed a 5-mile hike with dry and comfortable feet. I should also mention that I sprayed them with a waterproofing spray to add an extra layer of protection. The shoes are fantastic. I would recommend it and buy it again.
These hiking boots are one of our favorites. My children's feet are small, and finding "toddler" shoes for "kids" is difficult. Because most manufacturers assume that "toddlers" refers to children who are unable to walk, they overlook children with small feet. My children, who are four and seven years old, wear a toddler size eight and a small child size ten. br>br>These are tough shoes that are on par with real hiking boots. We've already put a lot of miles on them and are very happy with our purchase.
Excellent grip and comfort in a hiking shoe. In tennis shoes, I wear a women's size 8 wide. It's a size 7 youth, but it's a little long, like an 8. 5. However, it allows me to insert my inserts. I'd probably be a 6 if I had to choose. 5 is the best, but they don't have that size; not overly supportive, but adequate for everyday outdoor work; not suitable for extreme hiking. br> br> br> br> br> Do not put in the washing machine. Even if you air dry them, they will be misshapen and shrink. Only use cold water for rinsing and allow to air dry.
