I would recommend this collection more as a decorative collection rather than one that serves a practical or functional purpose. Shaving is made more difficult by the blade of the razor not stropping properly and not gaining an edge, which results in a blade scraping across your face for no reason at all. Aside from being very nice looking, the brush, holder, and razor were all included in this set. Despite having received this yesterday, I have already invested at least five hours into using it. Despite honing it with Shapton glass stones (about the best and most expensive sharpening stones you can find) from 1000 grit to 16000, slicing it repeatedly with my lap paddle with green compound, I still can't achieve a smooth shave. I'm persistent and annoyed at this point so I'm going to spend another couple of hours doing this blade again in order to get it right. If you're looking for a blade you can grab, lap it 100 times and be done, this is NOT that blade. This brush holder and holder is absolutely gorgeous, however the blade is completely.

I have had to spend $60 on tools to get it to shave, and I still cannot use it to shave my face. A sharpened razor is a good starting point. The price, however, is worth it as you'll have to spend more with this product than one that has been prepared and is ready to use.

I really liked the kit and the razor handle, as well as the way the kit was made. No matter how many times you sharpen the blade, it will not retain an edge no matter how long you sharpen it (and it is not shave ready either). It might just be that I received one that was not hardened and tempered correctly, or all of them are like this. It's really just a nice shaving kit and not a good straight razor that you're purchasing for this purchase.
