Questions & Answers
Sure. The trick is to keep it in one's hands when it's extremely hot.
Because I was cutting foam with 18 and 24 ga wire, I needed a wire temperature of 600 F or less. For the 18 ga, it took around 7 A, and for the 24 ga, it took about 3 A. Wires with lengths of 3 and 5 feet had voltages of 1. 7 and 2. 8 V for an 18 ga cutter and 7 V for a 3 foot 24 ga cutter (I had to go to 18 ga for a 5 foot cutter to get enough wire tension).
Yes, it is harder than (soft) copper, but probably softer than piano wire, and it resembles untempered stainless steel.
It has a firmer feel than copper electrical wire, but it is still flexible.
Selected User Reviews For TEMCo Nichrome 80 series wire 18 Gauge 50 FT Resistance AWG ga
It was difficult to find the 18 gauge size I wanted in a reliable quality, so TEMCo seemed like the best option in terms of price, delivery speed, and quality assurance. The price was very reasonable, the shipping was free, all of the electrical specifications were clearly stated, and I have confidence in the quality because it is made in the United States. A win- I'm going with the winner!.
It's quite satisfactory. I purchased it in order to create custom tips for my wood stove. It all came unraveled when I first tried to remove it from the spool. This, I believe, is due to the fact that it was wound on the spool too tightly. It's a little more difficult than I expected; working flat with a hammer takes some time. When heated, it mostly maintains its shape. Thank you to the seller for assisting me in canceling an order for the incorrect gauge.
This was used to cut extremely large polystyrene foam blocks. It was a huge success.
It was used to create wood-burning tips.
My requirements for nichrome wire were precisely met. I can use it in my current pyrography pen, but it worked even better in my high-heat vaporizer system.
Pyrography (woodburning) tips are made with this wire. It really works. Exactly what I was looking for.
The results were as expected.
