The tray as a whole The magnets are on the bottom of the tray, which is made of steel. The entire thing is magnetized by large magnets. When I'm not using it, I stick it to the side of my toolbox, where it won't budge.
The magnets have a great deal of power. br>If they're too strong, use duct tape to line the inside of the tray.
Please accept my apologies, but I am unsure. It's been a year or two since I purchased it. I'll tell you right now that I really enjoy this.

Because the magnet is so strong, you can stick it to any metal part you're working on while putting everything else in the tray and everything will stay put. It's not a flimsy, thin parts tray; instead, it's made of a nice metal with strong magnets. This product is a definite winner!.
After buying a few other magnetic trays from Harbor Freight, I came across this tray. Two small round magnetic trays and one large rectangular one are in my collection. The magnets in this Tekton version are larger and more powerful. It holds more items (due to the larger magnets) and more securely (due to the stronger magnets) than the previous trays I owned. When needed, it adheres to my metal tool chest as well as my car. Nothing has gotten away from it by accident thus far. I kind of wish I had bought this instead of squandering my money on inferior products in the first place. br>br>On a related note, I own a lot of Tekton tools and have never had any issues with them. I trust this company more than most other low-cost manufacturers. instruments for calculating costs.
After losing a bolt near the front fender, I decided to pick this up. It's still somewhere out there, and I had to make a separate trip just to replace it. As an afterthought, I purchased this in the hopes of avoiding the hassle of searching for parts and knocking into the unknown. It's a lot heavier than it appears. br>br> The magnets have a tremendous amount of pulling power. Any magnetic component would not be able to escape from the tray. I've used it on a few automotive projects and found it to be very helpful. So far, it hasn't resulted in any lost parts. It's essentially a metal tray with magnets, so I expect it to last a very long time.
That doesn't appeal to me, but I'm sure I could do worse in my store. So I attach it to the side of my toolbox, but when I remove it, only one of the magnets remains. There was barely any glue on the removed magnet. Quality control is a joke. br>br>*UPDATE
Tekton sent me a replacement tray at no cost, which arrived without a dent and has remained magnet-free for the past week. As a result, I've given it three stars.
This is my second purchase of a Tekton parts tray. I started with a smaller circular one, which I used for a few small car projects (as well as radio-controlled cars). I quickly realized I'd need at least one more (if not a few more) for my remote-controlled car projects. I went with a much larger rectangular one to store screwdrivers and wrenches, as well as small nuts, bolts, washers, and other ferrous parts. It's extremely durable, and the smooth surface makes picking up the magnetized parts a breeze. The larger one (this one) is now a permanent part of my toolbox, while the smaller circular one is now a part of my radio-related equipment. Pit box for remote-controlled cars I'm thinking about getting a couple more because they're so useful. You owe it to yourself to get one of these if you work on almost anything and need a place to put and hold screws, washers, bolts, nuts, tiny parts, tools, or anything ferrous. You'll use it once and then come up with new ways to put it to use; 100% certain. It's just that they're super-awesome. Very useful.
With very powerful and large magnets that are covered in rubber to protect the surface, it easily holds my ratchet and sockets, as well as other tools and nuts. Thankfully, because I accidentally touched my "power" wire to this tray while it was "hot" (live wire), I would have created a BAD short circuit if it weren't for the rubber soles, because my bank of super capacitors puts out 30,000 amps!.
On a tool cart, this thing is ideal for holding multiple items at once; I can put nuts and bolts on one half and sockets and extensions on the other. This is far superior to the traditional circular trays, where everything tends to mix together.
It's a great tray, with plastic covers over two powerful magnets to keep it from scratching. I have a smaller, round 6" magnetic tray as well, but this one has more space for socket wrenches and longer tools. It's great to have a quick place to rest your tools without having to put them on a shelf or on the ground, and to have them within reach.
