Questions & Answers

Why is this item more expensive than others?

We used Safety Seal Brand Plugs on Semi Trucks from the late 1980s to the late 1990s. Trailer. For those, we went with the longer truck style. The dealer who sold them to us drove a Chevy Van, and each of his tires had at least 25 to 30 plugs in the tread and sidewalks to demonstrate his trust in them. He drove all over Arizona in the heat and never had a flat or blow out due to the plugs in the time I've known him, so it's the QUALITY that sets them apart from the competition.

What's the difference between the two safety seal kits, aside from the 2x number of plug ribbons? What's the difference between a kap30 and a kap? thx?

According to the website for the Safety Seal, There are 60 plugs on the KAP vs. 40 on the KAP. In comparison to the KAP30, the KAP comes with an Allen wrench and an extra set screw for the handles. However, when I purchased the KAP30 in February of this year, it came with an extra set screw, Allen wrench, and razor blades. The only thing that differed was the number of plugs.

How long do you think the plugs will last in storage? Will they hold up in the desert where I live, where it gets hot?

If you're worried about the heat, I'd put these plugs in plastic ziploc bags to keep them moist. They'll be fine as long as they don't dry out.

Is it possible to separate the handle from the reamer and insertion tool so that I can carry only one handle on my motorcycle?

Yes, using an allen wrench, both handles can be removed.

For DIY'ers, this is an excellent tire plug repair kit for nails
5/5

After having a tire "repaired" at Good Years, only to have it slowly leak, necessitating weekly air fills, and eventually replacing the tire there, and more recently, after attempting to schedule a "free" tire flat service, only to be told to come at the end of the day, when the online scheduler had the entire day open, I decided to DIY. I had originally planned to order an $8 Slime kit, but after reading the best reviews for Safety Seal on Amazon, I decided to purchase the kit. I saw the Safety Seal online product video, which explained the magic of their product as being primarily due to their plug, and it was convincing enough that I decided not to use Slime kit and instead purchase and try Safety Seal. It's a fantastic product. After removing a roofing nail, I used a reamer to finish the job. I tried gentle reaming first, but the plug wouldn't fit. Then I tried reinstalling the reamer and vigorously rotating it, as I had seen in YouTube videos. After that, the needle and plug were pushed in snugly by the body's weight. The leak was quickly stopped, as evidenced by soapy water. I strapped it to my car and drove 15 miles at 60 miles per hour. At 75 mph, I checked for leaks with soapy water and found that they were still holding, with no bubbles. This is a fantastic product for those who like to do things on their own. br>br>Update from a month ago: As seen from the outside, the brown plug has turned black, and the air pressure is perfect. The plug is still visible on the tire, so I can redo it if necessary, but it does not appear to be necessary. I saved the remaining 29 plugs in a Ziploc bag to use later. This kit was well worth the money in terms of peace of mind, ease of repair, and long-lasting quality. br>br>Update, 6 months later. Another tire on a different car lost pressure due to a wood screw between the threads, but the original plug is still fine. I removed the tire and had it patched, and it worked perfectly; everything was completed in under an hour. Exceptional product. br>br>Update, 1. Now it's been five years. All of the plugged tires are holding air just like new tires. Since then, there have been two more flats, one from a staple in the tread and the other from a pinhole in the sidewall. Despite the warnings about sidewalls, I went ahead and tried it, and it worked! It was actually easier to plug it there because there was less force involved, and soapy water and highway driving confirmed a good seal. I was going to use a mushroom-shaped plug, but an online search convinced me that a silicon plug with a fixed round shape would not work as well as a string/rope plug that can mold to the shape of the puncture and is self-vulcanizing. In less than two years, this product has saved me over $1,000, and I expect it to continue to do so. br>br>Update: it's been two years. After 110k miles and 8 hours of use, I had to replace a tire. After repairing FIVE sidewall pinholes and rips over the course of five years. It was time to replace the tire, which was a Goodyear tire with a 50k rating. It was a pleasant surprise that all FIVE sidewall plugs, which had been installed using Safety Seal strings, remained leak-free. This saved me tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours spent in tire and auto shops. All of my previous plugs were on the treads, not the sidewalls, so I believe this tire had a manufacturing flaw. When compared to tires without plugs, the tread plugs are holding up well, TPMs aren't triggering, and I haven't noticed any leaks. The safety seal kit is doing its job and I expect it to continue to do so.

Handles snap and fall apart
3/5

The set-screw handles are a complete joke. The handle broke right at the set screw while attempting to ream out a tire. To get the reamer out of the tire, I had to use pliers; thankfully, I was at home and could finish the job with other tools. It looked great in the box, but it was destroyed after the first use because it didn't do the job. Today I'm going to buy something else.

This is fantastic
5/5

The short review is that this is a high-quality product with a well-organized case that includes everything needed to repair tire leaks and flats caused by holes and damage in the tread that are less than 1/4 inch deep. br>br>The lengthy and in-depth examination. This is a fantastic product made in the United States. The kit comes with the following items, which are not mentioned in the description:br>- Case for transport (size 7) 5" x 11. 5" x 2. 5", 2 lbs 8 oz full)br>- 30 four-inch repair plugs with a six-year shelf lifebr>- Insertion tool with a metal T handlebr>- Spiral probe with a metal T handlebr>- br>- Extra insertion needle and set screw (attaches to insertion tool with Allen key included)br>- Lube
- Pictures are included in the instructions. (However, the manufacturer's website has a great instructional video. ) )
- I chose this kit because of its high quality and the fact that it is made in the United States. br>br>I chose this kit because of its high quality and the fact that it is made in the United States. What I also like about Safety Seal is that each piece can be ordered separately if refills or replacements are required. This kit makes an excellent emergency repair kit to keep in your vehicle in case of a flat tire; most flats can be repaired with this kit and an air compressor to inflate the repaired tire; you may also want to include a plier in the kit to remove debris from the tire if necessary. If you use it on one or two cars, the 30 included plugs will last you a lifetime. The only thing that would need to be replaced would be the plugs, which can harden over time. I purchased this kit because one of my summer wheels and tires had a slow leak when I removed them for the season. I assumed the plug in the leaky tire had leaked and needed to be replaced because it had been plugged at a tire shop two years ago. With winter over and the tires needing to be reinstalled on the car, I realized I'd have to deal with the tire and looked into this kit. I've never plugged a tire before, but I've seen it done numerous times, and the instructions appear to be straightforward and straightforward. I figured that for the same price as a tire repair at a tire shop, I could get this kit, keep it in the car, and if I used it once more, it would pay for itself. So I checked the existing plug in the tire to make sure it wasn't leaking, and a closer look revealed a large screw stuck in the tread. The tire was repaired in less than two minutes after I followed the instructions. The quality and ease of use were both outstanding. I'm going to buy another one to keep in my other car because I'd rather not have to ride on a donut if I can avoid it.

MADE IN THE USA has been proven to be worth the extra cost
5/5

I'm glad I spent more money on this rather than the slime. br>In a new tire, I had a fairly large puncture, which I patched as usual. I started with the cheaper green and black stuff from China, as well as their rubber cement goo. In a nutshell, it leaked, leaked, leaked. When I was looking for a new tire, I came across this product and decided to buy it to see if there was any difference, plus I needed a kit for the other car, so why not? br>br>To cut a long story short, this stuff actually works! I removed the old plug and cement, then replaced it with a safety seal plug that didn't require any cement. It's been a few months and thousands of miles, but it still holds air like it's brand new. I've had no leaks and haven't had to buy a new tire because it's tried and true, as well as being made in the United States. Stop deliberating and go ahead and buy it now. Advantages: br>br>
- br>Sturdybr>- Designed and manufactured in the United States of Americabr>- Materials of high qualitybr>- Cons: Not as dependable as the competitionbr>br>
- Price.
