The actual tire depth, as measured with a digital gauge, is 2/32's less on this gauge. The main issue is that you believe you have less tire depth than you do. My Harley Davidson dealer installed new tires, and I used this garage to check tire depth. It was displaying a low of 2/32. I returned the bike to the shop. They used their digital gauge to show me that the new tires were in compliance with the manufacturer's specifications. You'll be buying new tires too soon if you use this gauge, even if your tread depth is still good after a few thousand miles (or more)! I can't return this gauge to the seller because it's too late, so I'm stuck with it.
I bought this to keep an eye on my wife's tires as they approached the end of their tread life, and it does a good job of indicating how low your tread is getting. The indicators are small and difficult to see in low-light situations. The lighting isn't ideal, but it's not a deal breaker. I'm confident in the accuracy of the measurements because they match what the tire shop gave me after measuring the tread. I'm not sure I agree with the long-term strategy. They're not long-lasting, but they're inexpensive enough to replace while I keep track of the tread life on my other two cars.

If you use it, you'll need to calibrate it with another precise guage. The instructions are incorrect, and if you turn the dial all the way in as instructed, the readings will be WAY off. Avoid.
It's a small, simple tool that actually works! I purchased this a few weeks ago and am very pleased with it. Because it is so small, it can easily fit into any small space in your vehicle. Although the tire pressure measurements are not as precise as those used by professionals, they are adequate for everyday use.
It's a good gauge. Though the tension/friction required to move the gauge inside the housing is so minimal that false readings are easily displayed, this is a good tread depth gauge. br>br>If you use the gauge carefully, you should be fine. br>br>If it weren't for that, I'd give it five stars in every category.
If properly cared for, this is a very durable device that will last many lifetimes. It takes some getting used to, but you just keep turning the page until you figure it out. It's very useful once you figure out how to read it, and it's helped me figure out how long my tires might last, so it's well worth the money!.
