Questions & Answers
Inserts should not be used with any other installation kit. This kit does the job perfectly, whereas another kit may have quality issues, but inserts are available separately.
If the spark plugs are M14x1, it will work. The two- and four-valve engines account for 25 of the total.
Before you begin the repair, make sure the valves are closed, and then use an appropriate blow gun to blow out the cylinder. If you use a cheap bore scope, you'll be able to tell if you've removed all of the shavings.

For spark plug repair on my Ford Triton, I looked at a lot of different designs and talked to a lot of people. For me, the Time-Sert was by far the most comprehensive and powerful remedy. With the heads on and the fuel rails in place, I was able to complete the repair. (F150, F150, F150, F150, F150, F150, F150 4L, with 220,000 miles on the clock)br>br>Be very careful not to hit any intake or exhaust valve heads. Before reaming or threading, both valves must be completely closed. It is recommended that grease not be used to catch/retain machining chips (the grease is far too difficult to clean up). Instead, apply oil to each tool, then vacuum chips from the bottom of the cylinder with a shop vacuum and tubing, then agitate and blow out any remaining chips with compressed air and tubing. To catch the majority of chips, rotate the tubing completely around the cylinder bore using vacuum or compressed air in all cases. Use NON-PERMANENT NON-PERMANENT NON-PERMANENT NON-PERMANENT NON To clean the threads in the head, use a flammable brake cleaner. Vacuum the shop once more before installing new inserts (NON-PROFESSIONAL). As a final clean-up, use flammable brake cleaner. Then replace the inserts and torque them in place. Let's see if I can get another 100,000 miles out of this engine. Fingers crossed. Ford should never have built or sold these Triton engines with such a bad, prone to failure, spark plug blowout issue. On my truck, I'm hoping it's all fixed now.
I'm not a professional mechanic, but I do a lot of my own work on things I know how to fix. After doing a lot of research on ford triton engines with ejected spark plugs, I decided to purchase this kit. I've got number four. 3 and 7 ejected two plugs, 6 ejected two plugs, 6 ejected two plugs, 6 ej My plugs were repaired at a local shop, and they used the small black inserts with the top stitching. They did a good job on the first repair, but not so much on the second. Under load, I was having problems with detonation and misfiring. I made the decision to purchase this kit and complete the project on my own. I'm so glad I took the chance! With the help of this kit, I was able to remove the old inserts and replace them with two timer inserts. The instructions are simple to read and follow, and there are some helpful videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to use the kit. With the head on the workbench, this is a fantastic shot. It was done using the truck's engine. The tools are well-made and machined to a high degree of precision. The inserts are of excellent quality. They are significantly larger than the store-bought black ones. I followed all of the instructions and tips to the letter and had no trouble installing the new inserts. I recommend getting a bore scope so you can see what you're doing. I have a low-cost unit that has already paid for itself on this project. You may think the kit is pricey, and you would be correct; however, you get what you pay for. If done correctly, the repair will last indefinitely, and I'll have 6 more inserts if I eject another plug. My truck is in excellent condition, all issues have been resolved, and I was able to complete the project myself. Long review, but a lot of information to disseminate. In the end, I had to choose between getting this kit and getting new heads. This kit helped me save both my sanity and my money.
The instructions, too. This kit exudes quality on every level. br>Even the instructions are laminated so that they can be reused. br>At first, I was intimidated; after all, this is a massive undertaking, but I needed to get the truck going. br>One of the things I did was use an internet trick. br>I inserted a hand-held blow tip with a rubber stopper into the spark plug hole. Set the pressure on the compressor to 15 psi and secure the handle with a cable tie. br>Then I manually turned the engine over. br>I knew I was on the compression cycle when it shot out of the spark plug hole. The valves had been shut. br>After that, I'd be able to carry on with the repair. To remove the remainder of the chips, use a shop vac with a small hose taped to the end. br>Buy this kit; it's a lot easier than it appears.
This is not a fix for those who aren't mechanically inclined. I'm old and have years of machining experience, and getting lazy or rambunctious with this process will only make things worse. However, if you're an experienced user, this kit is, in my opinion, the best on the market. The tool is of excellent quality, and the final result is a long-lasting fix. Time Sert, you did an outstanding job.
Comparing the tinesert bigsert kit to any other solution is difficult for me as a professional auto mechanic. Unlike anything else. The level of engineering that went into this tool is unrivaled. On a recent 02 excursion with the 6, I did 10 inserts. 8 triton V10 is a type of triton that can be found in This is not a job for the faint of heart, and it is a pain to do with any equipment. When comparing the timsert bigsert kit to the others on the market, as well as hearing horror stories about other manufacturers' inserts blowing out and leaving a larger hole to repair, the timesert kit proves to be well worth the money. It was only one job, but it was enough to cover all of my expenses. If you follow the instructions, you'll have a repair you can be proud of, and you'll be able to sign your name on it, just like I did. I'm not sure I'd want my name on any other insert repair made by any of the other brands. If you don't believe me, just look at the evidence. So, as I did, I encourage you to go out and find similar repair kits and compare them for yourself. You'll discover that the timesert insert kit is the only option that is truly correct. br>br>As I previously stated, I recently completed 10 inserts on a trip with no issues with the use or function of the tools in this kit; however, I have ALSO completed at least two other repairs from shops that used a lower quality kit and their inserts blew out. Unlike any other kit on the market, this one can repair most blown-out inserts. br>br>I can't say enough good things about this kit. Tinesert, you did an excellent job.
It was a pricey product, but it worked well and was clearly built to last a long time; some of the other fixes were less expensive, but they received mixed reviews. It was worth the extra cost because this was not a repair I wanted to try more than once on the same cylinder.
