I'm not an expert on the subject, but I can say that I've had no problems cleaning parts with kerosene. However, keep in mind that kerosene is flammable and can be hazardous, especially if you're washing parts in your home or basement. In my basement, I have a saw sharpening system, and I clean circular saws with the Torin.
I haven't had any issues with using solvent in mine. I despise water-based cleaners because they don't work well and will mold if not stirred daily.
There's no reason why it shouldn't be done. Petroleum distillate is used to make PSC1000 cleaner. Mineral spirits, a petroleum distillate, is compatible with the Torin T10035.
For its size, it's made of heavy-duty metal, and it's well-made and useful for cleaning small parts.

Some of the negative reviews made me nervous, but I didn't have any of the issues mentioned. It seems to be exactly what I was hoping for. One reviewer complained that the cleaning fluid sprayed everywhere because it came out of the nozzle too quickly. Although it does not splash out while running, it does when cleaning the actual parts, which I thought was reasonable. Placing some plastic sheeting down would be a good idea.
I bought two of these. It happened five years ago, and I'm only now getting around to warning people about it. Ed's Red, a homemade gun bore cleaner, was added to the mix. 1 part acetone, 1 part trans fluid, 1 part mineral spirits, 1 part kerosene I assumed that because it was rated for mineral spirits, it would be able to handle the rest of the mix. Within a week, Ed's Red had melted all of the non-steel items. So, while I can't fault the product, it clearly did not work for me. It's unclear which chemical caused it to melt.
This one was the only one that said it could be used with mineral spirits, so I ordered it. When I open the package, I see "Do not use with MINERAL SPIRITS" written in capital letters on the front cover. Mineral spirits, according to the instructions, will destroy the pump. Aside from that false claim, it's just like all the other cheap, crappy little cleaning tanks on the market. My guess is that they're all the same and came from the same factory.
Because of the pump, this small parts washer is almost useless. The solvent is sprayed all over the place because it is poured out far too quickly. I modified it for $20 by adding a flo- To make it work, I used a brush and a few brass fittings. The solvent is still sprayed all over the place. Consider how many times you've been in a restroom and turned on the sink to wash your hands only to be drenched due to the high pressure. Imagine mineral spirits dripping down your pants, face, wall, and anything else within 5 feet of the parts washer instead of water. It's also made of flimsy metal, and I've already bent the bottom tray by cramming a large part into it. Buying a small washer with an overpowered pump was a huge mistake for me. I was trying to save space, but I should have gone to tractor supply and bought the 20 gallon unit. I've never owned a Torin product before, and I'll never own another Torin product because I use it primarily for working on my cars and motorcycles.
Fantastic piece of equipment - After using the TS cleaner, I used the water-based WD 40 - It wasn't quite cruel enough for car parts, though. With no brush attachment, it's a little too splashy. The solvent has been running for a few months now, and the pump is still quiet and delivering a good flow. A V- Although an 8-head is a stretch, it can easily accommodate a 4-barrel carburetor. This year's best new arrival in the shop.
Prior to purchasing this one, my only experience with parts cleaners was with larger commercial models. I considered buying one over the years, but I didn't require one frequently enough to justify devoting space to a large stand-alone unit. br>br>A few months ago, I purchased a classic Ford Bronco and discovered that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. So I needed a good way to clean all of the parts before reassembling it. I considered simply using a bucket; however, I decided against it. However, I'm glad I decided to buy this instead. br>br>Because it's light and small, I was able to set it up on one of the tables in my garage's shop area without it getting in the way of other things. It was simple to put together and appears to be well-made for the most part. So far, I've had no issues with it, and it performs admirably. However, it is not perfect: first, the filter screen that is supposed to attach to the pump is oversized and does not fit; second, the filter screen that is supposed to attach to the pump is oversized and does not fit; third, the filter screen that is supposed to attach to the pump is oversized and does not fit; and finally, the filter screen that is supposed to attach to the pump is oversized and does As a result, it does not stay attached to the pump as it should. Instead, it breaks free and falls to the pan's bottom. Second, and this is my only other criticism, it requires a variable-speed or slower pump. Because the solvent is pumped at an excessively high rate for such a small container, you must be extremely cautious about where you place your parts and the solvent stream. You'll end up with a huge mess on the floor, on the walls, on you, and so on if you don't. However, you quickly become accustomed to it. It would be nice if you could slow it down so it doesn't splatter everywhere. It can, however, be made to work by a cautious individual. br>br>Oh, I almost forgot to mention something else. It can be difficult to get into and out of the work platform (a flat piece of painted metal with drain holes where you place the parts while cleaning them). Mine clogs up the nozzle of the pump, as well as other places. It's not that working out and getting into position is difficult, but it could be made easier if the clothing was more tailored to the individual. Fortunately, once it's in place, you won't have to remove it very often. I also have a suggestion. br>br> It would be nice if the unit had a drain plug, but only if it was positioned so that you could drain the solvent from the top while leaving the grit and grime in the bottom of the pan to settle. I had to change my solvent in the middle of my transmission rebuild, and I had to use a cutoff water bottle to get the solvent out of the pan. I was able to get almost all of the solvent out (to reuse it) while avoiding disturbing the settled grime, then washed the pan and refilled it with clean solvent to complete my rebuild. You could use the pump to extract a large amount of solvent, but you'd either need to connect a hose to the cleaner's output hose or be very careful not to get solvent all over the place. It's also light enough to pick up the cleaner and pour the solvent out, but I believe this would stir up the sediment. In any case, it's merely an idea. In the future, I'm considering purchasing and installing my own drain plug. br>br>This little cleaner came in handy while I was working on my transmission, and I'm sure I'll use it again in the future.
I filled it with Simple Green and forgot about it for a while; the next time I remembered it, there was a large puddle on my workshop floor! In the tank, there was a big rust hole! At work, we had a parts washer that was similar (but larger). For YEARS, I've been using Simple Green, and I've never had a problem like this. Seek out a genuine high-quality item.
As a Father's Day gift, I purchased this for my father's garage bar. He used to transport glassware in a plastic tub from the house kitchen to the beach for summer cookouts and parties. There were a number of mishaps. It's ideal for cleaning shakers and glassware. The small pump has a strong flow, but it does not spray water all over the place. He also doesn't have to sacrifice counter space because of the closable lid. It's also in keeping with the ambiance of the room! It's perfect for him.
