Nope
Yes, we use petroleum-based solvents in our shop, and they perform just as well as ZEP brand filters at a third of the cost.
It can sustain itself. I ran a section of perforated PVC pipe through the middle and mounted it to cover the pressure washer's inlet, allowing it to only draw through the PVC pipe.
I tried it in a Zep Dynawash and it worked, but I don't know the part number and can't seem to find it.

This filter is a direct replacement for zep filters, but at a lower cost.
The place is neat and tidy, and the cost is reasonable.
I came across this and decided to order it to try it out; I really like it and use it to filter the parts washer fluid.
Fits my old Zep parts washer and appears to be of the same quality as the Zep filter it replaced. The best part is that it's only a third of the cost of a Zep-branded filter.
This is ideal for use with my ZEP parts washer. I'm relieved that I won't have to track down a ZEP representative to obtain replacements.
Exactly what was advertised, and a good product.
