Questions & Answers

Is it possible to refill this item using only water and air pressure?

Yes, you can refill it with water and a pressure of 100 PSI of air/nitrogen. A female valve outlet (where the hose assembly attaches) can also be used with an Amerex 02141 fill adapter.

I ordered this for a friend and was surprised to learn that it would arrive empty! Is this something that happens frequently? Is it necessary for them to fill it themselves?

Yes, it's usually shipped empty, and it's up to the customer to fill it up with water.

Is it possible to include a forming agent in the recipe? You might be able to, according to one review, but has anyone tried it? If you want to compare this to something else, this is the way to go. Is it the "foaming" model of the 250?

While working as a railroad welder, I had a lot of experience with similar extinguishers. I always added about a table spoon of blue Dawn dish soap, which acted as a wetting agent rather than producing foam. It caused the water to soak into the wood ties rather than run off. We used rv antifreeze mixed with dish soap or class A foam during the winter. WINDSHIELD DEICER SHOULD NOT BE USED! It's alcohol, and it burns with a blue, almost imperceptible flame, making it unsuitable for use around a fire.

I'm curious about the hose's diameter. ?

Approximately 3/4" in diameter on the outside.

PERFECT
5/5

Filling and charging/recharging are both simple processes. It has a lot of storage space. It sprays 30 feet without being overcharged. The pattern is about the size of a bushel basket at 30 feet because it sprays so hard. Yes, I also have ABC chemical extinguishers, but I wouldn't be without this one. I'd soak the pellet hopper on the stove, or a fire in a wall, or pretty much anything made of wood. Other people complained that their new fire extinguisher couldn't be recharged without going somewhere and paying for it, or going to a Fire Station. Fill to the bottom of the Dip Tube SLEEVE with water, then inflate with air through the NORMAL size valve stem, and you're ready to go. Check for leaks, but despite many refills with the same old O ring, none of these have ever leaked. It's possible to charge it with a bicycle pump or at the very least a gas station.

This is a fantastic unit for use outside
5/5

This item appears to be ideal for extinguishing small outdoor fires, and the construction and materials appear to be of good quality. It's also very user-friendly - as well as recycling! If you're not planning on using it for electrical fires, it should be very effective AND cost-effective in the long run. Because you can refill it over and over, it's a good idea to run with it. This is a useful feature because it allows you and your family to practice with it multiple times without incurring the costs associated with the one-time purchase. Extinguishers made of dry chemical extinguishers that can be used only once. This was purchased for use on a small ranch. The unit came in a sealed cardboard box about the same size as the unit itself, which I keep in my truck to put out any potential fires caused by chainsaw sparks, hot muffler contact with tall grass, and so on. Although there is no padding except for the box, I can see how rough handling could be a concern, but due to the high quality of the construction, it is unlikely to be damaged even if it is bounced around in the back of a delivery truck - In most cases, I believe the cardboard box would be sufficient to protect the unit (particularly the pressure gauge) during shipping. My package arrived in perfect condition in any case. In terms of use, removing the top collar for filling is a breeze - After it's filled, all that's needed to close it and get a good seal is a little hand tightening. After a few fills, you can pretty much 'eye-ball' it. 'Ball' the level of fill. It's easy to pressurize the unit: A small three was used. 5 gallons of air at 135 pounds per square inch It took less than ten seconds to fill the compressor. It's the same as airing up your bike or car's tires! I timed the water stream and it runs for about 40 seconds. 45 seconds of extremely high water pressure and output volume. It takes about 1 minute. It takes about 45 seconds to completely blow out all of the water in the tank, but both the water pressure and volume begin to fade after that. The water output reaches a point where it can only be used to go over, and thoroughly douse, the area that you just put out after about 1 minute. I did a lot of research and comparisons and found that this unit had the best combination of H2O capacity, quality, H2O output, and price when compared to similar models and other online sellers. It's something I'd strongly advise you to try - For the amount of 'fire insurance' this unit provides, a little over $100 is a fantastic value! I also recommend cleaning the collar threads and applying a thin coat of a good corrosion inhibitor/lubricant like CorrosionX HD before using it for the first time.

This is a high-quality product that I purchased after reading Clyde Soles' "The Fire Smart Home Handbook" (which I also highly recommend)
5/5

br>br>This fire extinguisher has exceeded my expectations. It is delivered with no contents. To fill, unscrew the collar and lift the hose/handle/tube piece out of the way, leaving the filling funnel in place. Add 2. 5 gallons of water, or until it starts to bubble. (The filling funnel is designed to ensure that only a certain amount of water is added, leaving an air space to be pressurized later. ) Remove the funnel and place it in the fire extinguisher. ) Remove the cap from the Schrader valve and replace the top part. I added 100 pounds of pressure with a bicycle floor pump. The floor pump has a very precise gauge, so it's recommended over using a filling station hose; the gauge on the extinguisher, supposedly, isn't as precise, though mine came right to dead center with 100lbs. br>br>It's simple to use. Spray by pulling the pin, squeezing the handle, and pulling the pin again. I was able to achieve the claimed distance of 40' and discharge time of 50 seconds. This item performs exactly as it should. br>br>Because it was so simple to refill, I let everyone in the family try it out and get used to it. This fire extinguisher has exceeded my expectations.

The strength of the stream it produced astounded us all
5/5

We bought a bunch of dry chemical extinguishers when we moved to the farm because the nearest fire station was miles away and a volunteer squad, so we knew any response would take time. I always wanted more "fire insurance. " br>Here's "MORE," fill it up, pump it up (having an air compressor handy is very helpful), and let it go. br>I put it to the test right after it arrived from Amazon, and we filled it with 2. We were all amazed at the power of the stream it put out, manageable for even our youngest member, easy to direct the flow, water flow strong enough to let you be well away from the fire. Make sure and review the right way to fight a fire. br>All stainless steel, all American made, ready 24/7 to protect you and yours, cheap insurance.

This thing is incredible! To pressurize, you'll need an air compressor; however, this device is fantastic
5/5

I really like the fact that you can fill it up with your own water. Then use an air compressor to pressurize it. br>br>The only problem I see with this is one's ability to be mobile and deploy it quickly in an emergency. I'm not familiar with that capability because I'm not a firefighter. It does, however, come with a mounting bracket. In order to solve the problem I mentioned, I'm going to see if a rifle strap can be used. The only other thing that comes to mind is whether or not water should be filtered. What happens if you use irrigation water or hard water that has been stored in it for a long time? It would be nice if it had some sort of screen, like a faucet, to prevent this. I believe I will purchase a second one. br>br> It would be useful on a camping trip, despite its size. This thing will undoubtedly extinguish campfires.
