Mud is unlikely to soak up in it. I had mine in a 55 gallon drum filled with a mix of water and miracle grow and it wouldn't suck up easily once the water level reached 15" even though the water was still below the surface.

In the past, we've owned several other pumps but none of this quality. We bought this Terapump a few weeks ago, and it arrived quickly and seems to be well made. Our system has never failed us yet! We use it almost daily and it is never a disappointment. Pumps like this are terrific! Although it was working when originally purchased (see original review below), this item failed to function after a few months. Due to a leak at the connection between the discharge hose and the body, air enters, preventing the siphon from functioning properly. It would not be a good idea for me to buy As described, it works. There should be some more length on the output hose In some cases, making sure the output of the siphon is lower than the input can be a bit tricky because it is only a few inches longer than the source tube.

My opinion of this product is completely negative and dissatisfied. As of now, I am trying to return it via UPS, and the provided shipping label does not match the one on my package.
The design is fantastic. A better alternative to sucking on a garden hose because it works for siphoning water and fits snugly in the barrel. I made the 55 gallon storage barrel of plastic because it is not a pump and so it seems strong to me. As a result of the instructions, I am able to siphon all of the water into smaller containers by mounting my barrels off of the ground.
Using a slant drive, I cut off 5" of the intake tube. Materials that are very durable! Once your first pump is complete, you will not have to pump anymore unless your barrel runs out. This thing really puts out a lot of water and you won't have to maintain the pump!.
It is a great pump for the price. This will be used in 2018 to transfer gas from a 55 gallon steel drum to a 5 gallon gas can. It has been operating seamlessly for more than a year, and I've pumped many gallons through it. I don't know about the changes since I did not see them online. It seems that they may have changed the design. For the price, this model does a great job.
