I have never had a pump fail to thread into a barrel that I own. Threads can be difficult to thread, because you have to get the right length. I don't know if the problem can be fixed.
My memory indicates it fits the finer thread side of the barrel Even if I am wrong, it would still fit one of the two since I have the same set-up on my barrel.

I just got through hurricane Florence here on the east coast and with my prepared emergency water drum it worked like a charm. When an emergency situation arises, there is a risk of losing water. Most people do not consider that if the water is restored you may be advised to boil the water. With enough water stored, I didn't have to worry about that. Having the right equipment, like the Terapump, made it easy to access that water! Use these as part of your emergency preparedness equipment if you are using 30 or 55 gallon drums. It's not fun to be frustrated in a serious situation, is it?.
My experience was that it worked great for about a week before simply stopping Even though I tried to understand it, I found it no longer had suction. This product is used to transfer drinking water only from 55 gallon jugs. The item is not intended for heavy use.
Easy to prime and the water just started flowing. I wasn't able to screw mine in because the barrel hole was too large for the screw. I may have had luck in the other hole but didn't test it out. As described earlier, it is still sitting on top and you have just to steady it for two or three pumps to prime and then you can hold it by one hand. For my purposes, it was a much simpler method than drilling A number of barrels are on the way. In order to bring water with us, I put one in my horse trailer. For powering RVs, collecting rainwater and as a hurricane backup, one travels to off-grid properties to fill the tanks. I will be able to use these pumps in a variety of applications.
Having worked in an industrial environment for many years, I know these pumps well. Having said that, there is just one drawback to the pump -- the little flapper valve is flimsy and becomes loose. While it can be fixed, it is a pain when pumping something out and it must be cleaned and reinstalled before it can be used again. My only criticism of the product is the flapper valve. If it weren't so fragile, I'd give it five.
In our small business, we use these pumps to pump food oils and soy sauce from drums. It's been 5 years since I began using them. The drums may last longer than we think after a few drums, though we dispose of them after a few drums. Nothing to worry about.
Hydroponic nutrients, acids, and 50% peroxide are the things I use these for.
It was easy to operate and I found it to be a good pump for the price. 5 GAL CANS CAN BE FILLED FROM 55 GAL DRUMS IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THOSE PUMPS ARE GREAT, I am not sure why I waited so long to buy them. THANK YOU SO MUCH, I WISH I'D GETTEN THEM SOONER. I LIKE THE FAST WORK AND HOW GOOD IT IS.
I was looking for a pump for drinking water. I came across electric pumps but they didn't fit my need and were very expensive so I decided to try this one. I like the ease of use since there is no manual pump. The 55 gallon capacity of this connector is suitable for me. Getting the drum filled was not an issue. On level ground the drum was emptied about two-thirds before losing suction and I had to refill it About 1/4 of the drum was left, so I had to reprime In most cases if the drum was raised on blocks, it would drain to about an inch left in the drum after being primed two or three times. My husband and I bought two of them, one for fresh water and one for general use. I liked both of them a lot.
