Is it possible to use this to pump drinking water in the event of a zombie apocalypse?

Caustic fluids, such as detergent, are not intended for use except in petroleum-based fluids and drastically reduce life. However, because it is made of steel, it will work for a short time if you pump water every day, but it will rust and stick in a few days if you don't use it, making it unsanitary for drinking water. Better yet, get a pump made entirely of plastic.

My water well is approximately 50 to 60 feet deep. Is this pump suited to my needs?

Water can't be pumped from a depth of more than 21 feet with any pump. If the well is deeper, the pump must be at the bottom, pushing rather than pulling the water.

Is it possible to use this as a windshield washer fluid substitute?

I use them for various oils, chemicals, and detergents; typically water-based stuff that allows rusting will not work for long; however, regular engine anti freeze will work fine because it contains rust inhibitors; I don't know about your windshield washer solution; however, I suspect that it will at least work for a reasonable time, whereas regular straight water is definitely a no no.br>These pumps have steel barrels, pistons, and valves; they really shine on oil products, and they w Pumps with a plastic barrel, piston, and valves that work with water are also available. Yes, it is possible. I've been using mine to keep my engine running smoothly.

However, the pump does not work

(I'm going to go off on a tangent. ) I needed a pump for a 55 gallon water barrel, and I preferred a metal pump over a plastic one because I was worried about it breaking. This pump was one of the results when I searched for "hand pump for water barrel. " It was a little more than I wanted to pay, but hey, if it meant better quality, so be it. When the pump arrives, I figure out how to put it together (what are directions if you're a man, right?). ) and happened to notice something to the effect of "do not use this with water" on one of the papers that came with it. WTH? I went back through the Amazon description and couldn't find that information anywhere! This pump appears to be intended for use with oil only. Needless to say, I cleaned it up and used it in the water barrel anyway; it works fine, but will most likely be rusted solid by next spring, forcing me to look for another solution. Just irritated by what I can only describe as a deception on the part of the manufacturer's description on Amazon's website, which shows a pump that is NOT intended for use with water when water is part of the search and then fails to mention it anywhere in the description. It is functional; however, it is inconvenient.

Despite the fact that the description states that it can be used for liquids, including water, the instruction label specifically states that it should not be used for water pumping. I ordered a rain barrel and ended up having to return it.

There is no mention of not using water anywhere in the description. Fluids that are based on oil are the only ones that should be used. Leading description is something I really miss.

This is a terrible idea

I tried using this thing for Ranger Pro (weed killer) barrels, but it didn't last more than 6 months, and even then it was breaking down to the point where you had to pump it 30 times to get it going. It's incredible how quickly this pump failed, and there appears to be no way to repair it. All of the grease and lube in the world won't make this thing work again. I played with it for about an hour today, and nope, it's just dead.

This isn't something you'd use every day

This product will meet my needs for removing oil from my oil change barrel on a regular basis. It does leak at the top of the pump; I could probably fix it if I worked on it, but it's fine for my needs; if someone needs something to do regular work, I'd look elsewhere.
