Due to the swiveling action of the spring compressor, it could work in those positions. If you tilt your head at all, it will probably work

What happens if I use this on a VW type 4 or Porsche 914 head?

No, you can't align the heads. There is a different spacing between them.

It must be fixed first before you use it

The tool is not functional right out of the box. The holes for the long rod were too small for the rod to fit To make it work, it will require some modification. Position of responsibility. Buying a product that you will need to fix yourself is a good idea. To better explain, how difficult is it to trial fit the rod in the It had a really poor quality control, and there were only enough spot welds to keep it in place. A better outcome was possible.

There is a lack of quality control

Mr. Murphy had the same problem that I did. It was too large for the holes provided to accommodate the cross shaft. Furthermore, the latch that goes on the valve spring retainer needed to be clearanced for the pivot to work properly. It has sharp edges on the blocks that go under the valves, so the combustion chamber can be easily damaged. The Quality Control process is awful, and it will take some time to modify a new tool to make it work.

A $15 charge was imposed for a defective Christmas present returned after it was damaged when delivered (a Christmas gift)

I returned the item through Amazon and received a refund. I had to pay $15 for the vendor to accept a defective item back. It is no longer possible to get an answer to an email or phone call. I do not recommend it.
