It may withstand a light drizzle or rain, but I doubt it will keep the water out if submerged in water or in a downpour. There is no rubber seal around the battery compartment, and my battery compartment lid will not stay on, leaving the battery compartment open. Fortunately, I don't need a clock, so I don't use the battery. If a clock isn't required, the compass and thermometer may be waterproof or water resistant.
Simply put, don't waste your money on it. Sticky tape is used to secure it.
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever It's a complete waste of time!
I was wondering the same thing because the description clearly states that the lighting is internal. With no lights, it's a huge letdown. That was the single most important factor in my decision to use this model.

The clock would not work, and the compass would only work in the direction of North. It would begin to set, but would not move beyond that point. I gave it my all. I just handed it back. The read- The temperature outside was SO SMALL, I needed glasses to see.
The Atlantic Ocean (to the east) is visible in the photo, and the temperature outside is 73 degrees!.
So it won't stay stuck to the dash with the Velcro that came with it; all it needs is a little sun to fall off. At night, it's impossible to see. It should've been painted with glow-in-the-dark paint. br>Thermometer should have an adjustment knob because it is 12 degrees higher than it should be.
Unless you're heading south, the compass is completely useless. It's akin to the broken clock that is correct twice a day. It always says we're heading south, no matter which way you turn. The termomenter is most likely functional, but the small size makes it difficult to read. The clock appears to be working properly, which is all that matters to me.
I bought this the other day because my car doesn't have a compass, and I use it to figure out where to park my SUV so that I can sleep in the shade when camping. Here's what I've learned:br>br>1 - The compass is unreliable, always pointing westbr>2 - The temperature gauge is inaccurate, and even if it were, it would be difficult to read. br>3 - The clock, too, does not keep precise time. My clock doesn't even show the time; it just shows lines on the screen. br>br>This is a piece of junk; nothing about it works as it should. Save your money and don't purchase this.
Although the product description mentioned day and night back lighting, this feature was not available when I received the item. And I'm unable to return this item because I threw away the packaging and glued the base to my dashboard because the double-sided tape was insufficient.
It's nearly impossible to read the temperature gauge. As is the case with the clock, the temperature should be digital.
To mount this on the upper tray on the roof of the golf cart, I had to turn all of the readouts upside down, which took about an hour because you have to change the temperature and time to fit it in upside down. Thank you, JK, for putting one on my neighbor's cart!.
