From frame to restore my 1996 Sportster XL1200, I followed the instructions described in I like it most of the time. There are excellent wiring diagrams included in the book that saved me time and money. A torque chart is also included that provides torque values for just about every bolt on the bike. Sometimes, however, the diagrams can be a bit cluttered or confusing since they include multiple years in the drawings. There are also pictures of bikes from different years throughout the book, so what you're looking at in the book is probably not what your own bike looks like. However, I had no trouble finding the chapter I was looking for, as the book was organized well and page numbers worked as they should. Despite being paperback, I think it will last for quite a while. During the rebuild, there was no damage to the manual other than greasy fingerprints. It is easy to get confused by fluid amounts. It took me some time to figure out the amount of oil to put in. If you want to repair a bike with the least amount of effort possible, I recommend you follow these steps 1
It looks like one of the best upcoming books (I haven't tried any other publishers yet) so I would suggest buying it. 3.
You should at least have a vague idea about what you're doing (i. e. I'd recommend you start with the book). 1. 2. 3. If you need additional information or to ask specific questions, you can use an online forum. This is a good forum (XL forum)
4. Label fuel, oil, and electric lines as you go with tape, taking pictures every step of the way. Note 5. Do not rush, and make sure that you have all the proper equipment. It is expensive to buy tools, but they are durable and last a lifetime.
There are more than 300 pages in this Clymer book for even the most mechanically novice person, including detailed repair procedures, illustrations, text, color wiring diagrams, maintenance intervals, troubleshooting charts, an index, part descriptions, and much more. There is a rarity to find a repair manual with as much information as this Clymer! The book even discloses some tricks and secrets that can make tasks easier to perform The cost of repair can be kept low. The Sportster Owner's Guide gives you the knowledge you need to become an expert! When you ride and work on it, it's worth its weight in gold.
also like this book. It is incredibly informative even if I don't fully understand it, and I find that using this book with videos really helps in keeping yourself certain and from asking questions so many related to whatever repair or tune-up you may need to do. The way you're doing it is great.
Having this guide will be a great reference if you're going to do any work or even troubleshoot yourself.
This book does the job but not in the same lay out as the old one, which was bigger and easier to navigate, however, it is decent.
Delivery in a timely manner. You can call it the bible of sportsters. Spend less money on one and save some money!.
The help was great. I have a few suggestions for anyone who custom builds a machine or needs to fix a machine that is.
