Questions & Answers

Is it possible to diagnose an exhaust leak using this?

When diagnosing an underhood exhaust leak or some other mechanical issue, it can help rule out an exhaust leak if you're trying to determine whether or not a particular sound (like ticking) is coming from under the hood.

Especially after using it, I want to know how I can clean it. Is there any tester fluid that leaks into the coolant during ?

It is not possible for tester fluid to leak into coolant since it is contained in a one-way valve A cone-shaped valve at the end provides two-way flow. No harm will result from test fluid getting into the coolant, even if it were to get in.

What are the limitations of using it for a diesel ?

I have tested it with diesel engines and it works. An example of a positive test would be a greenish color In contrast to the full yellow color that you would see when testing a gasoline engine with a combustion leak, the fluid has a more gradual transition to yellow.

We want to be totally certain of the HG before scrapping, so how long does it take to run the engine? Is it necessary to run the engine every time or can we simply spin it multiple times to test?

It's not easy to understand your concerns. By detecting combustion gases in the coolant system, the block Tester can detect engine problems. In the absence of combustion, the device will not work. While it is starting, if it is not running, it's likely that enough combustion carbons are getting into the coolant system, causing it to fail to ignite the fuel. Unfortunately, I am not really sure if it will work without The system does not provide for leaks caused by water leaving the exhaust system as a result of head gasket leaks. It is my hope that

This is a well crafted and useful tool
4/5

This is a decent piece of equipment. In addition to its design and utility, the tool makes a great gift. is made up of a thick-textured film The tube is lined with thick, flexible plastic and sealed with rubber stoppers at both ends. In order to fill the radiators with liquid reagents, a small amount of reagent is poured into the tube and By pressing the rubber bulb against the top of the tube and letting it pump slowly several times, this rubber bulb is inflated. In this device, gasses are drawn from the radiator through an aerator made of porous metal that A few pumps later, the color of the reagent turns yellow if there are hydrocarbons In the bottom cap you will find a check valve which will prevent the reagent from draining out and in the bulb you will find another check valve to ensure that it draws and does not pump. In my case, I was able to use this tool to confirm that my 2003 Civic's head gasket was leaking (unfortunately). Once the car warmed up, I found that the coolant level increased to the point that I had to drain even more coolant before I could conduct the test. The instructions tell you to drain enough coolant to provide a few inches between the radiator and the block before you begin the test. In order to keep liquid from entering the tube, it would be helpful if the design included a floating ball valve (like the one used for a wet/dry shop vacuum). The yellow color of the reagent, which is very similar to the color of Prestone antifreeze, concerned me at first, but when my final test was successful, I noticed that the volume of reagent in the tube was still the same (at the fill line). After I completed my experiment with adding antifreeze directly to the reagent, I found that a substantial amount of antifreeze must be added for the color of the reagent to fully change to In any case, if it is possible chemically, a reagent that creates a different color than antifreeze could be useful. The cap is held on to the rim by an adhesive. However, the adhesive is too weak, and the cap can be accidentally removed. It is not possible to reattach easily with more adhesive once it is removed. This needs to be corrected either by designing the bottom cap to be removable by design, or by using a strong adhesive that prevents the bottom

We have some more information for you It will take enough reagent to run several tests from the supplied bottle. This reagent is meant to be used for an entire year, according to the instructions. It has been determined that yellow reagents (that have been used for a positive test) cannot be reused, but it is not clear if reusing reagents from a negative test would have any adverse effects.

A tool used to confirm or challenge the diagnosis of a dealer
5/5

The construction is of top quality. It was shipped out very quickly on Prime.

BACKGROUND I If you see bubbles in your Driving it is a bad idea We need a more detailed diagnosis. As soon as the bubbles were spotted, the engine was opened and given a leakdown test. They found that all cylinders had less than 3% leakage. Later that night, they said they had to do a "five-gas" test, but did not have the time. As a result, they requested overnight storage and finished it the next day, but our schedule did not permit that. Perhaps the story was a little fishy, or simply the characters were clumsy and less than However, I was not 100% sure of their abilities at that point, and so I sought second opinions. I used my tester.

I used my tester. In case you aren't familiar with it, there are lots of YouTube videos available. As long as they follow the instructions on the card, they don't need to do much more than lower the radiator level by two inches. The turkey baster can be used to cut 3 inches. You have to place a tight fitting tester over the radiator opening and then you need to make it work for one minute to draw the gases through it. 1) I started the engine at a warm temperature. There were no bubbles to be seen. 3) I drove it on the interstate for quite a while without noticing did it in the dead of night During the night, it was cold. The dealer mentioned bubbles, but I didn't see any of them. Each time I ran the Block Tester with fresh fluid after the visual test, I also ran the Block Tester. Imperial royal blue was pretty much the color of the fluid. Whenever possible, I use fresh fluids. After one of the tests just for fun, I waved it in the exhaust tailpipe plume - it worked great! It just didn't detect combustion gases in the radiator, so the fluid still works. Furthermore, after one of the tests I continued vigorously pumping for at least another five minutes, and it moved slightly away from the deep imperial royal blue (almost washed out with faint indigo) to being strongly blue, but with a hint of aqua in it. There was a concern in my mind. I also tested with fresh fluid in clean air, and it took about five minutes of vigorous shaking Pumping once you catch that slight The Honda mechanic must have seen something interesting, but what exactly did he see? I thought this tester was great. Finally, I will say this This This is a super easy to use app. It is something I would recommend to a.

When shopping for a used car, this is an essential tool
5/5

In the recent past, I purchased a secondhand vehicle which I thought was quite a It was diagnosed with a head gasket leak that eventually resulted in coolant loss and overheating. Due to my inspection prior to buying it, I inspected it for milky residue under the oil cap and I kept an eye out for any white smoke coming out of the exhaust. purchased this tool to confirm that and it did so within a few Through the use of this tool I was able to identify a HG leak at an early stage, and prevent any serious damage As I do every time I inspect a used car, I’ll take this with me and test for exhaust fumes in the coolant at the time of inspection.

Easy to do
5/5

Earlier than expected, it arrived. I found it to be very On the tester, fill up to the blue line with the fluid. Fill the radiator filler hole with the rubber tip at the bottom. When the engine is The primer bulb needs to be pumped. about 30 or 40 pumps to get the ball rolling. You will notice yellow color in the blue fluid if you have exhaust fumes in your cooling system. That was the case with mine. There's a high possibility that the head gasket has failed. As a next step, I am going to do a compression test to determine how deep I should cut a long story short, it does everything that it is expected to. Diagnosis has never been easier or more affordable.
