In the beginning, I cleaned the metal with 00 wire wool and acetone to get rid of After cleaning all the corrosion and dirt with these red pads and soapy water, we dried everything off. These are slightly more abrasive than the green pads I had previously used. I find them to be a bit more abrasive and work much better for me than the green pads. One of the features I like most about the finish is that I can scratch up the edges and raised parts without seeing the paint go through like I did with sanding.

Sanding lightly was my goal since I didn't want to take the finish down too far. I only wanted to take it down enough for me to coat it with polyurethane another time to keep it shiny and new looking. It was very useful to have such pads, which provided enough grit to sand down any gouges or uneven floor areas without taking up too much of the floor, so a second coat of polyurethane could be applied easily.
