Since I was a child, I have been doing woodwork professionally. My last job as a woodworker was 2 years ago, but once a woodworker, always a woodworker. I thought I might as well buy some spares since it's going to tare eventually if it spins thousands of RPM. I didn't know what the battery's capacity was, so I bought a couple A total of $8K was spent on the beds I was finishing. In fact, I probably could have gone through 3 to 4 of these things and still been able to sand. It can only be a case of operator error that led to bad reviews. It is not advisable to use a sander as a grinder, and too much pressure can damage the metal. Using a sander that is heavy but only mildly pressing your hands. Sandpaper and the sander will do the work for you. The sand paper and the sander will lose their original shape if too much pressure is applied. During my career, I have sanded and built a lot of products, and I consider this one to be one of the finest. 3m, thank you for your assistance.
It's a real disappointment! Foam was shredding and flying everywhere as soon as this pad started coming apart. I could only use it for thirty minutes before it started falling apart. The product is extremely poor quality. If you are a woodworker in need of quality products, you should not buy this.
The 3M pad I purchased was a premium product and I believed it was a safe bet. The hook and loop feature on the pad separated from the pad and stayed attached to A mere 30 minutes use of the interface pad destroyed the pad and rendered it unusable. Very disappointed in this product and will forever be wary of 3M products in the future.
The hold up well as far as durability is concerned. Furthermore, they do a good job of spacing from one another. As far as I can tell, I got through two boxes before the materials started to separate.

There is nothing to be done. Using a sandpaper pad between your DA / sander and your sand paper will help cushion the impact. There is no question about it. The tape helps you to not remove too much material when sanding corners, but do keep in mind that you should still tape off corners and edges unless you are absolutely sure you are going to do it right. Still, I managed to take paint off of an edge or two on accident, but that was my fault, not the I was using 3M Trizact discs to remove orange peel from my car's fender and door panel with this + a DA
I dislike how expensive 3M products are, but this thing seems solid and seemingly durable.
This sandpaper is ideal for final sanding primers or for wet or dry sanding clear coats. A properly designed backing plate with a hook and loop backing is necessary. Make sure you take good care of it. Be careful not to apply too much pressure or to catch an edge in the wrong direction. This model has been in my possession for two years now, and I use it frequently.
