First and foremost, this is a valve body replacement for a previously installed valve. If you've ever replaced the valve core in a bathroom or shower faucet, you'll be familiar with this process. That is how it is. If you need the entire valve assembly, you'll need to order it separately. This replaces the old (possibly failing) valve body on your RV grey or black tank.

I bought this to replace the valve on my camping trailer from 2001. I still had a leak after the first installation. I spoke with an RV mechanic, who provided me with two useful installation tips. 1 - To keep the gaskets in place, apply some petroleum jelly. 2 - The gaskets should be applied to the pipe fittings rather than the valve. I was installing them on the valve and then tightening the bolts, which pinched the gaskets and caused leaks. The installation went smoothly after I followed his advice, and there were no leaks.
This is very simple to set up. After completely emptying the grey tank and allowing it to air dry overnight, remove the cap. Simply remove the old one and apply vaseline to the gaskets to act as a lubricant gel to aid in sealing, then screw it in with the included screws and you're done! Pour a little water down the grey tank drain and leave it overnight to ensure proper sealing, and you're good to go! If you have disposable gloves on hand, that would be preferable, but it's not like you're dealing with toilet water.
My old Valve was old, and I'm not sure if it was factory installed when my Shasta was built, but it had Bristol Valves on it and seemed to seal fine. I've had this 5er for a year, and the reason I replaced the Valve was because the valves were becoming difficult to open and close. that the tee handles were long gone and seeing how bad the threads were from having to use pliers to open/close must have been like that for a long time before I got it So I went with The Valterra Valves For Their Quality And The Fact That These Have Metal Tee's I got both Valves Replaced In About 15 Minutes And Oh Man These Valves Open/Close So Easy One Finger Easy That's Nice Maybe I'm just over excited from having the hard open/close valves.
I'm a 60-year-old woman who loves to D and lives in a fifth wheel. Don't hire a 90-dollar-an-hour RV mechanic! incredibly simple to set up - I don't have to fight the old, worn-out one any longer. To loosen up your old rusted screws, spray them with WD40 a day ahead of time.
This product fits perfectly and I keep one on hand as a spare part. There's a reason why Valterra parts are becoming industry standard. It's only a matter of time if you camp frequently that your valve fails. Make it a point to keep one on hand; it's a high-quality part.
Valterra valves were installed in my 1999 Bounder diesel, but the handle for my grey water tank snapped in half one winter. br>br>Plus, the seal on that grey water valve had started to leak a little after 15 years. My wife can smell a flea's fart from a mile away, so I was quick to notice. br>br>Now, getting the seals to stay in place while wedging the valve into place was a challenge, but I discovered that if I loosened the hose clamp holding the pipe to the tank, I could twist the pipe and push it into place. GENTLY. This allowed me to properly seat the seals on both the grey and black tank valves.
When I first noticed the leak, I thought to myself, "Uh oh. " This is going to be a challenging and unpleasant repair. But there's no need to be concerned about this.
I've gone with Valterra waste valves for the second time. They're high-quality and simple to put together (only four bolts). I will buy this product again if I need it because the seller and price were both excellent.
