Be careful who you buy from. This item was not designed to be used on a boat. According to what I've read, a boat trim sender's resistance ranges from 0 to around 175 ohms (for nearly all makes and models). As a result, the trim sender sends 0 ohms when the drive is turned all the way down. The ohms increase as the drive is raised higher. As a result, one would expect half tilt to produce around 80-100 watts. 90 ohms. This thing is sending all 175 ohms at about 1/8 tilt, causing my gauge to read that the drive is fully trimmed. br>br>I checked this thing's total resistance, and it ranged from 0 to 1,170. Wow. This is a dreadful piece of Chinese garbage. Purchase is not recommended. Fortunately, I tested it before attempting to pull this new wire through my transom (with the engine still in place). I'm returning it and replacing it with a model that has received better reviews.
I bought this unit on May 24th, 2021, and went out the first time it worked fine, but the second time it stopped working, so I took a closer look at it yesterday, July 28th, to see why it stopped working. I removed it from the drive and turned it manually while looking at the gauge, but it just kept flickering and stayed at the top or bottom of the gauge even when you just let it sit without touching it. So look for another one and don't waste your money on this one; it's possible that I just received a bad one, but the return window closed on June 23, 2021, so I'll have to pay for another one.
Great price, but poor quality. . . I really wanted to like it, but the ohm range is off. To indicate full down position, the lowest setting of 40 ohms must be changed to 11. br>br>I'm glad I did some testing before putting it in. I'm coming back.
The mechanic refused to install it because it was Chinese, claiming that it would not last. As a result, I will have to purchase the original (Volvo) model.
Within two months, the sender had ceased to function.
