Yes, this will work if you have a three-wire system.

Will this part work in place of my Volvo Penta part number 3855074?

My dp- is from 2001. I used part number 3594989 to make my two-wire sensor. You should be able to contact a local Volvo dealer for assistance in locating the correct part number.

I have a part number 3855047 that appears to be two wires. Isn't this for a model from 1997?

For my 1999 model, I had a similar issue. Even with two wires, this one was a perfect fit.

On my 5, it worked perfectly. 7GXI . 1/3 of the price quoted by the dealer for the '3-' version with wires In any case, the third wire is not connected at the engine connector, which is very strange.

Part was delivered on time, but I had asked if screws were included, and as you can see from the response on here, they were, but no mounting screws were included, as previously stated. I have yet to install the part because it is in storage, but will update once it is.
