If your air conditioner is barely blowing, this resistor could be the source of the problem. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the blower motor because I replaced it about six months ago. I replaced the resistor on my blower motor with one of these new ones, and it's as good as new. I say like new, but if any of you have a 3rd generation Ram 2500, you already know how bad the air conditioning is!.
It's good stuff from Standard Motor Products. In my Dodge Ram truck, it works well and fits perfectly. So far, there have been no problems. Over the years, I've used a variety of Standard Motor Products in a variety of vehicles and have found that their components perform admirably.
After removing the OEM component, which had only 270K miles on it, I discovered it was in three pieces and solved my problems. I was down to one fan speed and suspected this was the culprit. This was installed in five minutes, and all of the fan speeds were blowing properly.
Okay.
The smell of burned electrical wiring for the first week when the fan was on low was the only complaint. It's not terrible, but it's something to be concerned about. The odor was gone after a week, and the fan motor was working properly.
This part fit and functioned perfectly in my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Hemi Extended cab, and it took only a few minutes to install. br>br>I also replaced the blower motor and the blend/re-circulation pump with ones from Four Seasons on Amazon. From Dorman's, go around the back door. All three should be completed at the same time, in my opinion. The blower motor draws too much current, which causes the resistor to burn out. The broken blend/re-compression valve appears to be the cause of the blower motor drawing too much current. The blower motor has to work harder to move the air because of the circ door, which restricts air flow and builds back pressure. br>br>I recommend that all three parts be replaced at the same time. The blending and re-blending Circular doors necessitate tearing into the dash, but it's not that difficult; there are literally dozens of howto videos on YouTube that will walk you through the process.
That's pretty much all there is to say about something like this. However, the price was significantly lower than that of other options. That said, it had better not fail anytime soon, because having to replace it again is not worth the lower price.
My Dodge 2500's fan was only working on high setting, and I was able to fix it. Unfortunately, a girl cut in front of me and totaled my truck.
