It's mounted in a hole.
When the door is opened, the switch magnet detaches and the steps are activated. When the door is closed, the magnet closes, activating the steps to retract; in between, it is neutral - There is no use of energy.
It's just a magnetic reed switch, so don't expect anything more than 200 volts. 300ma

The switch did not come with a magnet. This was required to switch from the old (white) to the new (black) steps. I spoke with Lippert, who confirmed that I could simply use the old magnet. It's all good.
I received exactly what I ordered, and it was a perfect fit.
Works.
It's fine, but I needed a white one to contrast with the black.
My rv door was repaired.
For a flush in door mount, it works well with the Kwikee step system.
The bag had been resealed, but one half of the magnetic contact was missing from the tape.
IT'S VERY NICE.
