Questions & Answers
No, it is not going to happen. Only the 8500 metal pump is compatible with this kit. Older models require determining the model number and contacting MITYVAC for the repair kit number. Right now, I'm dealing with this.
So, in my opinion.
It is dependent on the pump's model. Only the model 8500 pump is covered by this kit.
The Mitty Vac pump should be the right size.

This rebuild kit (for newer Mityvac metal body pumps) is required if your pump no longer draws or holds vacuum or pressure. In most cases, the user has drawn in either brake fluid or oil, causing one or more seals to swell and fail. With just a few tools and two fluids, it's very simple to do: br>br>Needle nose pliersbr>Couple of very small flat head screwdrivers for carefully prying partsbr>Phillips 1 and 2 screwdriversbr>Silicone based lubricant (nothing petroleum based! )br>Phillips 1 and 2 screwdriversbr>Phillips 1 and 2 screwdriversbr>Phillips 1 and 2 screwdriversbr>Phil ) I'm a big fan of Sil. This will prevent your new O rings from failing too soon. br>br>Overall, a fantastic kit for the price.
To my mighty vacuum, I had to add a spring. This is due to the fact that this kit is only compatible with newer models of the original unit. One of my thirty-year-olds is still alive. As a result, all of the pieces are in place. To keep the pin in the handle in place, all that was needed was a spring to apply pressure to open it. No biggy. It saved me from having to buy a newer unit that I don't think is as well made as my original!.
The step- Most of the step-by-step instructions are correct. They tell you to remove a part near the end without telling you to install the replacement part, which is only noticeable because all the steps before it say remove this or that part and install the new part, which anyone with half a brain can figure out. If there are any parts left over, you must have skipped a step. Also, the instructions completely ignore the selector valve's (vacuum/pressure) orientation, so double-check the orientation of the original before removing it. Overall, this is a good option to consider before purchasing a new pump.
"br>By purchasing the rebuilt kit now, you will save money over time, assuming it is still available when you need it. br>I recently purchased the Mityvac pump in metal, as well as this rebuild kit. It's a one-of-a-kind tool that will last a lifetime and then.
The majority of the pieces did not fit the pump I had, which was an older metal type, but I was able to fix it with the piece I needed.
Some of the junk didn't work on my pump, and others were different. You'd be better off getting a new pump because it's more expensive for what you get.
After getting brake fluid in it and the orings swelling up, I needed to rebuild my Mityvac. br>I just wish this rebuild kit was less than a third of the cost of a new kit.
