My 2013 VW TDI Sportwagen's rear latch needed to be replaced recently. The old one had stopped latching completely. I decided to give this part a try because of its low price and quick delivery. The latch is still in perfect working order six months later. br>br>The new latch is shown in the video and photo. As you can see from the picture, the new piece doesn't 100% cover the same area as the old piece doesn't cover the same area as the old piece does The back of the part and the trunk metal have a small gap between them. However, it does not appear that this discrepancy is a problem. br>br>As with any VW repair, have a set of torx and 12 point sockets on hand. I don't recall exactly what I had to use because it's been so long since I replaced it, but I do recall pulling out the Capri 12 point set. This is literally a 10-minute job if you have the right tools. Repair time is 15 minutes.
My 2015 Golf TSI's hatch would not open less than 12 hours before a five-day trip. I assumed there was something stuck in the latch at first, but nothing seemed to work to free it up. I ended up removing some internal trim pieces and securing the hatch with rope (the back seats were folded down and the rope was tied to the latches on either side). It performed admirably throughout the journey, but upon my return, I was left with a hatch that would not open! After doing some research, I decided to take a chance and force it open. What I discovered was that the actuator had failed and the door had become stuck shut. I did my research and came across this little gem; it was delivered within 30 hours of ordering and installed in less than 20 minutes (I already had a lot of the trim loose or off). It was up and running within minutes of being installed. It's still going strong after 1000 miles and numerous hatch openings! I don't see the point in spending seven dollars. If this one fits and works so well, it's worth ten times as much as an "OE" version!.
It's simple to swap out the broken one for this one. By purchasing from here rather than the dealer, I was able to save a substantial amount of money. When removing the old one, make sure the two bolts that hold the latch in place are tightened with the correct wrench. However, I was able to loosen them with a small vice grip and then remove them the rest of the way with my fingers.
It appears to function properly. The quality appears to be comparable to that of the vehicle. I demonstrated how to install with the help of a YouTube video.
Installing this part resolved that and all related issues (interior lights remained on, rear defroster and wipers were inoperable, etc. ). It was fairly simple to install and I'm sure much less expensive than having it done in a shop if that was an option.
In my 2012 VW wagon, it worked just like the OEM part. You'll need a specific tool to set it up - I ordered the tool set that came with the part, and it arrived quickly. One of the sockets is in perfect working condition.
The dealer wanted $164 for the same part; time will tell if it is reliable, but it fit perfectly and works perfectly. The installation took less than ten minutes.
