Questions & Answers

Is this compatible with the 42 L E Transmission?

Fits the 42 RLE perfectly and eliminated the seepage I was experiencing when I tried to use a "normal RTV sealer."

Is this compatible with the automatic transmission in a 1997 Jeep Wrangler?

If your transmission is the 42RLE, it will. It was delivered in the year 2003. 07-TJ/LJ and 06TJ/LJ 13 JK.

Is this for a Dodge Intrepid SE 2 that was manufactured in 2001?

Nothing I found gave me enough information to confirm that this gasket would fit the pan on the vehicle you specified. This gasket is typically found in RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) vehicles with automatic transmissions (such as many Jeeps). While not impossible, your specified vehicle (2001 Dodge Intrepid) is a FWD (Front Wheel Drive) vehicle, making it highly unlikely. It's even possible that the factory didn't use any gaskets at all.

I'm going to have to replace my tans oil pan soon, and I'm debating whether to buy this or the rtv with gasket. ?

I bought this for my transmission service, and the lube locker gaskets have performed admirably. After 20k miles, there were no leaks at all, and the torque specs were correct. On all of my vehicles, I now use lube locker for every application I can find. I hope this has been of assistance.

You can't go wrong with the best gasket available
5/5

You can't go wrong with this gasket. RTV or snot aren't required. It should be installed in a dry environment. The 42RLE pan is simple to put together, and the gasket is rigid and secure. You get what you pay for, and this pan is well worth the money. I had to drop it again after installing it because I forgot to put the magnet in the pan. There are no issues with resealing or reinstalling the product. putting the gasket in place I had no trouble bolting the pan back in because the Lube Locker gasket is reusable. Filter kits come with a thin rubber gasket that is thrown away. Use the Lube Locker gasket to seal the joint. I'll look into what else they make gaskets for and use Lube Lockers for the rest. RTV and adhesives are two of my least favorite things to work with. Invest in high-quality items only once; Purchase twice if you can.

The 42RLE transmission is a perfect match
5/5

It's been a month and there have been no leaks. This was purchased for my 2005 Jeep Wrangler X, which has a 42RLE transmission. I changed the filter and fluid in the transmission. This Lubelocker gasket is a perfect fit. br>br> The most difficult aspect of the job was removing the old RTV from the transmission pan. On my bench grinder, I used a wire wheel. Fortunately, the factory RTV did not adhere to the transmission's machined aluminum surface, so cleanup was minimal. br>br>For the past 35 years or so, I've been a shade tree mechanic. I try to save money whenever I can, but this was well worth it; A tube of RTV costs $8, whereas a tube of RTV costs $26. There's no need to deal with sloppy RTV any longer. I torqued it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. So far, there have been no leaks. br>br>My only gripe was that the torque sequence chart included in the package is a mirror image of what you see from below the vehicle. If you buy this, you'll understand what I mean. Regardless, I strongly suggest this product because it does exactly what it claims to do.

For the Money, the Best Gasket
5/5

Wow, I really like this gasket. I needed a regular transmission pan gasket for a transmission fluid flush, and Amazon recommended this Lube Locker gasket instead of the standard paper gasket. I pull the trigger on buying this gasket after reading the positive Amazon reviews and other Jeep forums. Because the steps to remove the transmission oil pan are quite involved, I want to make sure I don't have any issues with oil leaks after the transmission flush. br>br>The Lube Locker gasket arrived in a large, sturdy double-sided cardboard box labeled "Do Not Bend," with the understanding that any bent gasket is a bad gasket. Despite this, the USPS blunder blunder blunder blunder b Fortunately, the gasket was still in good condition, proving Lube Locker's tough packaging. br>br>Installing the gasket was simple and painless. The Lube Locker gasket was stiffer than the cheap paper gasket and easier to keep in place because of the extra rubber sealant. To ensure that the gasket stayed in place during the installation, I used a very small dab of rtv sealant on the corners and sharp bends. It wasn't necessary, but it didn't hurt, and there was no leak after tightening the fasteners and filling up with transmission fluid. Yeah. In my 20 years as a DIY mechanic, this is by far the best gasket I've used.

Jeep Liberty Sport 4WD, 2011 model
5/5

The pan was originally sealed with a silicone bead on this Jeep. I had heard good things about this gasket and decided to try it. br>At first glance, the item appears to be of good quality!br>The gasket fit perfectly! Steps to install: br>br> Surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry after using any type of cleaner. Torqued to 5 ft lbs, then 14 ft lbs in a cross patternbr>br>*1 week after installation, updated br>It's a fantastic product! No leaks.

RTV is not to be messed with
5/5

When I called Jeep to inquire about the gasket part number for my 2003 Wrangler with 42RLE, I was told that they don't have one and that RTV is all that is required. I came across this LubeLocker because I knew I'd make a mess and wanted to avoid a bad application. I read various reviews and inquired on Jeep forums, and received mostly positive feedback with only a few negative comments, so I decided to give it a shot. There have been no leaks in over a month. My guess is that some of the people who reported leaks did not put it on according to the torque pattern. I would buy it again right now if I needed it.

Lube Locker is a silicone-free lubricant that seals
5/5

Why risk having to do it twice when you can just buy a good gasket and do it once? My 2005 Jeep Liberty's transmission fluid had been changed by a "professional" and had been heavily gooped up with silicone to seal it. When I changed the fluid myself, I didn't notice that the pan had been viciously over torqued, and all of the bolt holes were dimpled from over tightening. When I reassembled it, the trans filter gasket that came with the filter leaked like a sieve, but as I previously stated, it was the fault of the so-called professionals, not the gasket. Removed the pan once more, noticing the dents, and using a body hammer, flattened the dimples out. When the Lube Locker gasket is completely dry and the correct torque of 14 is applied, the job is complete. 5 ft- The pan was perfectly sealed at lbs. Lube Locker has won me over.

Don't waste your time with RTV
5/5

I can't say enough good things about this product. br>br>Why in the world would people deal with RTV and the mess and having to wait for it to set, if only for a few dollars? br>br>br>br>br>br>br>before adding fluid br>br>Have even reused the gasket a couple of times, which Lube Locker does not recommend, and have had no problems. br>br>Follow their sequence and torque recommendations (it's right on the packaging) and you'll be fine. br>br>In all of my Jeeps, I use these. If a Lube Locker gasket is available for your application, BUY IT!.

What if you have a great idea but you don't know how to put it I was really hoping that this would work out for me
3/5

I decided to drain and refill my 2008 JK, using the filter's gasket. That was awful, or at the very least a bad idea. So I go to Amazon and look it up, and everyone seems to be pleased. As a result, I proceed to obtain it. I installed it according to the instructions, dry and torqued the entire 9 yards with no issues. Add 4 quarts of water to the pot. And my oil splatters all over the concrete, so I figured I must have forgotten a few bolts? It didn't make sense, so I double-checked them all and found no problems. I also removed the pan completely to ensure there was no RTV residue left, and it was clean as a whistle and covered in tranny oil. I was hoping that this would work out for me, as it had for so many others. I'll return it in the hopes that it'll be better once I get to differential? Who knows.
