I purchased a $15 air angle grinder from Harbor Freight as well as some 3M Rolocs and a Protool Roloc holder from Amazon. The Rolocs are like the little scrubby things you use on pans, but they rip paint and old gaskets off really quickly and make your surfaces nice and shiny. I have a little Porter Cable pancake compressor that goes on sale here from time to time. I've had to remove the plenum twice now, and both times I was able to reuse the gaskets with no leaks. I painted the entire thing, including the mating surfaces, the first time I installed them, and the gaskets stuck to them like glue, ruining them. I've learned my lesson and now make certain that the metal is completely bare. It was a perfect fit for my 1987 TPI IROC. To keep them in place, they have small plastic tabs that go into the runners and manifold. To install the plenum, make sure at least one of the runners is slightly loose, then install the plenum bolts, then snug down the runner bolts (preferably on the driver's side).
I'm relieved that all I needed for my L98 was a plenum kit. My fuel pressure regulator was replaced, and I attempted to reuse the old gaskets- This isn't a good plan. The original gaskets were replaced with these new FelPro gaskets, and the problem was solved.
On an 88 Corvette L98, it was a perfect fit. Have some nice retainers on hand to keep them in place.
I've discovered that they aren't always perfect with everything, but these gaskets have never let me down. They are a perfect fit and seal. Almost everything for the TPI can be found here. If you're working on one, you should also get the gaskets for the TB's upper plate, lower IAC/water passage, and IAC if you're working on one. Then you should be ready for anything that comes up on the plenum.
Fel- In general, pro gaskets perform well, and these did not disappoint.
There are no problems with the Fel Pro quality - a reasonable price.
The only complaint I have is that the line up tabs were a little loose, making it difficult to keep the gasket in place. While reconnecting the upper side of the intake manifold to the plenum on a 350 chevy TPI, it took a second set of hands to keep the gasket in place.
