Questions & Answers
If you have a round center ring, you should be able to remove it with ease. If you have a rectangular plate with screws in it, you won't need this tool; simply remove the screws and lift the top plate off to access the fuel pump!
Yes, it's made of plastic, which I prefer to metal for the limited amount of time I'll be using it. It's less likely that a tank will be hit.
This tool is used to remove and replace the lock ring.
It should fit any touring bike with a center fuel console; I used it on a 14 glide, and they are all the same.

Having never done this task before, I contacted HD service and was once again quoted a ridiculous service price. Instead, I did some University of YouTube research and discovered this tool instead of the HD model. The HD tool ranged in price between $200 and $400. 00 - $90. 00 if you could locate it, as it is always out of stock. It couldn't be found in the HD store and had to be ordered, and it was also ridiculously expensive on Ebay. br>Had this Lang tool delivered in one day with Prime for less than $30. 00 bucks.
Tips:
- Your battery and the fuel fuse should be taken into consideration. Follow the instructions in the service manual.
- Purge the tank after it has been completely emptied. This can be found in the U of YouTube service manual. If you don't, you'll end up with a gas leak.
- Ensure that the bike is in gear and that the kickstand or jiffy stand is in the down position.
- Make sure your tank's paint is protected.
- To avoid pulling or pushing the bike over, start applying pressure from the right side of the tank.
- Use a safe lubricant, such as silicone, to spray the tabs.
- Once the tool is in place on the ring tabs, press down evenly and turn slowly.
- Pull the handle down steadily while pushing down. Because this tool is made of hard plastic rather than metal, avoid using the very end of the hanfle.
- Proper tool placement, downward pressure, and steady tool pulling are the keys to success.
- After removing the ring, be careful not to damage the rubber gasket in the housing, or you'll have to order a new one from HD. You'll have a new leak if it's damaged! br>br>As I previously stated, this was extremely simple and resulted in hundreds of dollars in savings. It took a little longer to replace the fuel check valve and reconnect it to the fuel pump, but all in all, prep, installation, and clean-up took about an hour. It was a job that took an hour and a half to complete. br>Only because I was being extremely cautious not to make a mistake. br>Wishing you all the best. br>DO NOT DIE IF YOU DO NOT ACT QUICKLY.
Purchase this tool to save yourself time and frustration. My 2008 Harley Road King's cam locking ring was easily unlocked with the tool in just a few minutes. You can safely open up the tank to make repairs by pressing down and turning.
I deducted a star because I believe it is overpriced and, in my opinion, could be a little more durable. It does its job, but every time I use it, I'm afraid it will break. Nonetheless, it is a useful tool.
br>It also helps you avoid scratching your tank.
This was a great lang tool to open, but when it came time to close it, I tried using the screwdriver and hammer and it didn't work, so I ordered this tool. My gasket was missing, and I was breathing gas fumes because the dealer didn't put it on. I installed the new gasket, and it went on like butter with my new tool. Get this tool. It literally saved my life.
It's tough and reliable, and it'll get the job done. It's the same material as all the other wrenches you've seen. Do not be fooled by well-known brands such as Snap On or KD.
The ring on my Harley tank was easily removed with this method. The best way to use it is while mounted on a bike, but it's still simple.
Tool went above and beyond my expectations. It was powerful and effective. By using this tool, you can avoid scratching your tank with a hammer and a punch.
