I wouldn't do it. It's designed to be assembled without it, and the diesel will deteriorate the Teflon over time, allowing it to leak into your fuel system.
My fuel sensor was leaking, so I had to replace it. I didn't have to buy anything else because the wire was already there. F350 from the year 1997.
