Questions & Answers

Is there mounting hardware and security stickers included with this plate? If the answer is yes or no, the information must be included in the product details section. ?

All mounting hardware and instructions are included in the package. A special tool, which is not included but described in the instructions, is required. I was able to order it for around $35 plus tax and shipping on Amazon. I left the tool at the dealership because I didn't think I'd need it again, but don't expect your average mechanic to have it.

Will the 2014 prius plugin work?

Yes, it was installed on our 2014 plug-in hybrid vehicle.

So, if this shield is made of aluminum, which is softer than steel, what makes it so much more difficult to cut through than my stainless steel?

Aluminum is a soft metal that, despite being weaker than steel, will either embed into the cutoff wheel, causing it to explode, or severely dull the sawzall blade when thieves use the tools to cut off the cats, grinders, and sawzall.

Are these specifically designed for Honda components? Is this something that would work on a Honda element if it didn't work on a Ford?

Fits perfectly, comes with instructions and hardware, but is a little rattled
4/5

It's well-made, comfortable, and provides a sense of security. This package includes all of the necessary hardware for installation. There are even window decals with warnings on them. Because the car had to be very high and special tools were required, I paid a mechanic $120 to install it. Because the mechanic lacked a 1/4" rivet tool, he resorted to riv-it. Instead, use nuts and security screws in the front and steel rivets throughout for added security. br>br>11/20 UPDATE: When I took off from a stop, there was a horrible rattle that drove me insane, so I removed the front shield and discovered it was hitting the muffler. I covered that area with four layers of heat shield and it's now quiet. I wish I'd known about this design flaw before I installed it the first time. I'm docking a star for it.

After following the installation instructions, I was a little rattled
4/5

After reading the reviews, I felt comfortable purchasing this item. I put this cover on myself, following the instructions, and now it rattles. The dealer examined it and stated that it needed to be removed, bent, and re-installed. $150 to have it installed. Why isn't clearance mentioned in the otherwise straightforward instructions? I sent an email to the manufacturer and will update this post if I receive a response.

It's simple to put together, but it rattles like a maniac
4/5

Drill a few holes and pop a bunch of rivets into place, and you're done. Because the ground clearance makes using a manual rivet gun difficult, I highly recommend a pneumatic rivet gun. It appears to deter most punks from stealing the cat, but because it's made of relatively thin aluminum, more determined thieves could probably hack it off in a matter of minutes. br>br>The only issue I have is that at low speeds, it rattles against the muffler like crazy and tends to "ping" over bumps. As mentioned by another reviewer, a substantial amount of heat shield material should suffice, but knowing this before I riveted it in place would have been helpful.

Quick delivery
5/5

So I got this after hearing about a few people I knew who had their catalytic converters stolen from their Prius and had to spend an average of $1500 to replace them. So far, my car has performed flawlessly, and it appears to be a viable deterrent to someone attempting to steal my catalytic converter. I had it installed at a dealership, and it was bolted on, making it difficult to remove the cover on both sides of the car. br>br>While it may not completely prevent someone from attempting to steal my car, it does provide a sense of relief and security. If you don't have a Prius, you should get one. My car is a 2015 Prius 3rd Gen.

Excellent Anti-Theft Protection - A Car Mechanic's Testimony This is incredible! In my neighborhood, there had been a lot of Cat Converter theft, so I needed to take precautions
5/5

According to my mechanic, this is a brilliantly designed device that will take a long time to break. The bolt that secures the panels to the car, it appears, cannot be unscrewed for security reasons, which is brilliant!! I'm so glad I came across this product, and I appreciate the company's efforts to create something so useful! It comes highly recommended!.

At night, I get a better night's sleep
5/5

Theft of catalytic converters from Prius owners is a common occurrence in my neighborhood. Because the Prius engines are so powerful, thieves love the catalytic converters. In comparison to traditional non-electric vehicles, they are more efficient and require fewer resources to operate. The precious metals inside hybrid gas engines are cleaner as a result. Add in the fact that the converters are top-of-the-line. It takes less than 5 minutes to remove, and you have an instant target for theft on the back of your car. br>br>Recently, the catalytic converter on my neighbors' Prius was stolen in the middle of the night while the car was parked in the driveway. Nothing was heard or noticed by anyone. They're expensive to replace, and our Prius is usually parked less than 50 feet away from their driveway. As a result, I was unable to get a good night's sleep: I was jolted awake by every noise outside. br>br>As soon as I found out about the theft, I placed an order for a Cat Security Sheild. It's not as if it's a case of robbery. Catalytic converter thieves rely on speed and stealth, and removing the Cat Shield would take time and be extremely loud. The majority of the time, thieves will seek out a less difficult target. br>br>For most do-it-yourselfers, installation is difficult. individuals who are similar to yourself You should feel at ease working beneath a 3300-pound vehicle and be properly equipped. You'll need jack stands or, as I did, you can roll the front wheels onto ramps and then put stands under the back axle with a hydraulic jack. Even then, there isn't a lot of room to work with under the car. For many DIYers, the most difficult part will be finding an inexpensive manual hand riveter that is large enough to work with. In the limited space, I used an air compressor and a 1/4" Air Riveter, which worked well. (Harbor Freight sells these for around $75, and yes, a full 1/4" capacity draw/pop riveter is required. ) )br>br>Since I had the tools, the only issues I had were: first, Cat Security had left the "anti-virus" software on the computer; second, Cat Security had left the "anti-virus" software on the computer; third, Cat Security had left the "anti-virus" software on the computer; and finally, I took a piece of "rattle" tape from my installation kit. I came across the anti- I bought some rattle tape instead of waiting for parts from Cat Security because it's just foamed neoprene weather stripping you'd use around a door frame. To their credit, they responded quickly to my inquiry, and I'm confident that if I hadn't purchased some myself, they would have shipped it to me right away. br>br>An installer error was the other issue I encountered. To fit properly, the back of the shield must be tucked under some carriage frame attachments, and one side of the shield popped out while I was riveting the front part. I had to unbolt the frame attachment, tuck the shield back into position, and re-bolt it after the front of the shield was securely riveted in place. the frame attachment should be connected The whole job took about two hours with the right tools and those complications. br>br>Now I sleep better. Advantages: br>br> br>* Makes stealing your Prius Catalytic Converter more difficult. br>* If you have the necessary tools, this project can be completed quickly. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product. br>* If you don't have the tools or haven't done a lot of work underneath cars, this job might be too dangerous for you. Go to a store and purchase it.

It's a bit pricey, but it should get the job done
4/5

Although this is a high price for a piece of metal, it is less expensive than replacing your catalytic converter. This isn't a user-friendly website. br>br> (Unless you're a mechanic) item that can be installed I was charged $110 by my neighborhood mechanic. Each of the three Priuses I brought in cost me 130 dollars.
