Yes, the gears should also be replaced. While I was at it, I'd also install a water pump.
It was suggested to me that it would work with both ls1 and ls2.
Sir, I'm not sure; all I know is that it's the same oem chain that came with the engine when it was assembled at the dealer.

OEM packaging for a genuine GM part. On an LM7 5, I installed one. 3 on an LQ4 and one on an LQ4 6. They're a direct replacement for the stock gears, but they're noticeably thicker.
My LS1 was full of slop. After doing some research, it appears that they all do. The vehicle is in good working order.
I bought it hoping it would be tighter, but it has an inch of deflection slack, which makes it worse than the chain I was replacing. I bit the bullet and went with a double roller summit timing set because I couldn't even degree my cam in with this ls2 because of the slack.
Factor two is preferable to one. It is better than factory!br>Tbr>Can't beat the price! br>The Ls2 chain is thicker than the factory chain.
During my DOD delete on my 2009 Impala ss, I used this to replace the stock chain. It's fine. (There's also a ls2 tensioner on it. ) cam gear for ls2.
