Nope. It is not required. Remove the fan clutch by unbolting it and pulling the shaft off. Replace the fan by switching to a new clutch.
My car is a 1996 Limited with the V-Twin engine. It was a perfect fit at 6 inches. It took about 40 minutes to get it in. It may be necessary to tap or bump it to break free from the hub once the bolts have been removed, but that's all there is to it. It's a lot quieter now than it was when that fan was on all the time.
No, I don't believe so. I'm using a different motor.

The following day, you'll receive it. My old unit, which had 300K miles on it, was replaced, and my 2001 4Runner is now running better than ever! I also fixed an issue where my coolant temperatures would rise above normal during hot summer days when I was idling with my A/C on full blast. That no longer occurs after a new fan clutch is installed! br>br>It's also $50 less expensive than purchasing the same part directly from Toyota.
The box had taken a beating. This thing, on the other hand, was complete. haha It's a lot better than the Shimahide I got. The AISIN one unloads in a matter of seconds after starting the engine, whereas Shimahide did the opposite, running lock until my car reached operating temperatures before unloading! wth. This one, on the other hand, was a game changer! So, even if something says MADE IN JAPAN, don't waste your money on it! AISIN 4 LIFE is an acronym that stands for "Aisin for Life. ".
Until I replaced my factory fan clutch with this one, I had no idea how bad it was. When the engine is cold, the truck now starts up with the fan running at full speed, and after a few minutes, it kicks off. My old one was, I believe, glued to the wall. I can now accelerate without hearing the fan over the engine; the clutch will engage when the engine warms up, but I won't notice that until I'm pulling something or it's summer.
My 1997 Tacoma 3's constant on fan was fixed with this top-of-the-line product. You can look up Aisin's parent company, Toyota, if you didn't already know. This is the exact same part you'd get from a dealer for a fraction of the cost; the fins are identical, and the shafts are even painted the same green color.
The engine is a FE V6! When I installed this new Aisin fan clutch on my 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, the fan is now quiet, and it no longer makes that annoying whirring noise that makes it sound like a MACK truck when you accelerate. This Aisin is 100% the original fan clutch that comes with the truck when it is new. If your Toyota has the 5VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ-VZ- ALL OTHER GENUINE FAN CLUTCHES MUST BE LEFT BEHIND if you have an FE V6 engine! My mechanic installed a cheap Chinese-made Hayden fan clutch, and during the summer, my fan would always stay on, making a VERY LOUD whirring noise, consuming more fuel and causing my truck to accelerate slowly. It's not surprising, given that mechanics are known for using inferior replacement parts. The clutch was easily removed from the pulley with a 12mm wrench, and the nuts connecting the clutch to the fan were easily removed with a 10 mm socket wrench. I'm thrilled to have discovered the OEM fan clutch on Amazon! Thank you so much, Aisin! I didn't have to go to the dealer and pay a fortune for it because of this.
