That's not the case, I believe. I bought this for my boyfriend for his 39th birthday this year. He loves it! There looks to be a difference in style between an 05 and a 06.

Each part came in an individual package with a part number. Then they were packaged in bubble wrap, and I could put them in my mailbox. My 2008 Rubicon 4 door unlimited is a 4 door model It also had plastic hooks on top that broke on both hinge covers, so I had to replace them both. There are hooks on the top and a lug on the bottom - just like the OEM models. There is no 3M tape involved (at this point). Have you thought about swapping with a different side? It leaves a small gap on one side, as it is supposed to fit flush with the OEM one. A new one has been installed on my 2010 Jeep The price is the same as the OEM replacement at $30 from the dealer and just as good.
The supplier has provided me with four of these. They are too big for me and they were broken at the top of the first two. So I ordered two more and they do not fit. A highly disappointing experience. All four of them should be returned to me. My dealership only sold me these tires, so at least I know that they will fit without being too big or damaged.
