Questions & Answers

Has this part been installed in a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid?

This is the exact part you need for your Ford Escape Hybrid from 2008.

What should I do with the two seals/foam washers? On the outside of a piece of glass?

When I put them in place. They were placed by me. On. The outside of the glass was also spray painted with a rust inhibitor primer, as was the bare metal on the inside.

Do you use the extra rubber washer in addition to the ones that come with the brackets?

I'm sorry, but I don't have an answer because it was installed by a mechanic friend of ours. All I know is that he thought it was a good part and that installing it on my Ford Escape 2012 was a breeze for him.

With the provided rubber gaskets, the installation does not feel secure
3/5

I needed to replace my old hinges because they had rusted out, so I purchased this kit. It was a good fit and took about 20 minutes to put together. The foam gaskets, on the other hand, are extremely soft and inexpensive. Because the bolts bottom out before gripping the window tightly, it makes the window feel very loose in the binding. I used some spare rubber rings with this new kit because the old hinges I removed from my car had actual rubber rings, and it felt solid after that. br>br>If you have some extra rubber washers to replace the foam ones that come with it, this is a good product, but I wouldn't recommend using the foam ones that come with it.

It's probably a step up from the original
5/5

When the ones on my 2011 Escape began to crack, I ordered these hinges. I had them installed in two days and no longer have to worry about the back window being broken. br>br>There are several good videos online that show how to replace these, and the removal and installation of the old ones should take about 30 to 45 minutes. In my case, one of the screws was so badly rusted that I couldn't remove it with the star bit and had to drill it out. I used a 7/32 bit and took great care to drill as straight as possible in the center of the screw to avoid damaging the glass. If the bit wanders, it may collide with the tempered glass, shattering it. br>br>On the inside, these parts have a finish that the originals did not have. This should help to mitigate the corrosion that the originals suffer from. So, theoretically, these are superior to the originals. To demonstrate the extent of the corrosion, I included a photo of the original. br>br>The only complaint I have about this product is the nuts that come with it. The attached washer is significantly smaller than the original, as shown in the photo. I took the original and repurposed it. It would be nice if they could update their product with a larger attached washer; however, I didn't dock them a star because the original type can be used.

It was successful, but it could be better
3/5

The most difficult part of this procedure, in my opinion, was removing the original hinge if it was badly corroded, as mine was. I had to remove it and cut it out with a dremel. The installation procedure is fairly simple once that's done, but I nearly stripped the hinge frame's mounting post out. It is a shoddy construction. I ended up removing the mounting post, filling it with locktite, and rethreading it. After waiting 24 hours, I installed it. DO NOT use the 97in/lb method recommended by the manufacturer. These are not going to stand for it. Also, the washers that come with it are junk; I ended up using a garden hose spacer against the windshield with the t30 hex nut as a washer. I completed the task in the end. I'm not sure if I'd buy it again. Without a doubt, I would not purchase another Ford. They're no longer my responsibility.

Waste multiplied by two
3/5

It happens to everyone that they will make a mistake or have a defective part or product. This is the second batch of these that has failed due to critical flaws. Surprisingly, the left hinge fails both times. br>br>Neither set has a problem on the right side. The threading on the left side of the first set of torx fasteners had stripped out, so I decided to return it and get another set. Install the left side first when the second set arrives. Hmm, something isn't quite right here. It wouldn't snug up even after I finger tightened the nut to secure it to the vehicle. The threaded portion of the hinge broke/came out completely. br>br>In a nutshell, these are not to be trusted. Purchase from a different manufacturer, sell, or obtain an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product. These are a waste of money and a potential health hazard.

Bolt should not be tightened to the OEM setting - The bolt is about to snap
3/5

Although these appear to be OEM, the bolt that connects to the Escape body (not the glass) will not be torqued to OEM specifications. I used a brand new, factory calibrated torque wrench to set the torque to 95 inch pounds. Before I could reach the full torque setting of 95 inch lbs, the bolt snapped. I strongly advise against tightening them to the 97-inch-pound limit. spec. I'll need to order a new set from a different vendor now. Disappointed beyond belief. The bolt's nut appeared to be less durable than the OEM nut I had removed.

Materials at a ridiculously low price- BUYING IS A MISTAKE
3/5

After 11 years, the OEM hinge gave out. While the simplicity-of-use The quality of the metal, especially on the torx-type screws, was quite good during installation. The threaded insert it screws into, as well as the bit that connects the actual glass to the hinge, are both terrible. After I had to loosen the screw to readjust the fit of the (horribly cheap) foam grommet, the torx was beginning to strip, and by the time I was ready to tighten, the inside thread had almost completely stripped, and the screw was churning out tiny shavings of garbage and not tightening at all. To keep it from falling off, I had no choice but to use the wrong hinge. And no, I didn't use any power tools, so there's no risk of cross-contamination. Threading, all done by hand. br>br>Even so, neither piece gripped the glass as well as the OEM hinge, and the gate is much more wobbly than before. br>br>**Save your money,** and look for a better-paying job. replacement was examined It's been a long time since I've been so irritated by anything.

For a 2012 Ford Escape, it works, but it isn't the best fit or hinge
3/5

Fits a 2012 Ford Escape, but has issues; perhaps other cars are different, but the way this thing is designed is not good in my opinion. Only one of these items should be present: the hinge has a metal stub that sticks out, and the screw does as well. It appears that one or the other, but not both, should be the case. I made this work by using fender washers on the screw side to create a level surface that was the same depth as the raised area on the screw. Even though they're only a third of the price of OEM ones, if you can find them at all, they're still disappointing. Hinge also appears to have some play, which the original lacked.

2012 is the year of the escape
5/5

2012 Ford Escape is in excellent condition. If you're still irritated that your Ford vehicle was built with inferior cosmetic components, you're in luck! These are the perfect fit. For the past few weeks, I've been wearing them. They appear to be well constructed; I applied a rubber spray paint to the inside of this item to protect it from corrosion, but it appears to be well constructed. In addition, instead of the foam washers that came with the kit, I used rubber washers. Extra $0. Your local retailer will charge you $70 for this item. However, Ford should be ashamed of the original parts that came with my car. To add insult to injury, the back driver's side wheel well on my 2012 Ford has severe rust. RUST. Let's get this party started, man.
